Hi,
My mom and I are up really late, some nights it is awfully hard to sleep. Mom is up 'cause she is worried about me, and I am up 'cause I am not feeling tops.
I am almost 13 years old. That is a great age for Rhodesians, Most do not live this long. But I have been pampered and adored (as I should be) and being the center of the very Universe is a lot of work.
We have a very large family. There are nine 2 -leggers in our home. Mom and Dad, Nini and Boo they are adults and the 5 grands...Tristan 8, Bobby 6, Caity 5, Ceattle 4 and Ali-boo-boo 3. I was there to check each of the babies out when they came home to our house. And I have been in charge ever since of watching them . Then we have the 4-leggers. There are Nine of us as well. I don't count the cats, since they live in their own house in the backyard.
We are all Rhodesian Ridgebacks. I am related to all but two. There is my daughter Miranda 10, My sons Kota and Phelan 8 , my other daighter Mtzee 8 and her two daughters Dreamer and Caine who are 22months, then the upstarts, Zion is 14 months and Nemo is 4 months. I actually love all of them, they know they must be gentle and respectful towards me, as Dad says I am the Grand Dam in this house!
My people love our breed. We are a very different type of dog, almost more feline than canine. That may be 'cause we are originally from Africa where we were used to hunt lions and wild boar. We are amazing hunters and even better companions.
I am a retired Champion, so is my daughter Mtzee. The boys and Miranda were never shown, they are beautiful but they were meant to be famliy members not stars. The Pups are all show dogs, except for Nemo. He joined the pack to be trained as a companion for Kota when Kota returns to New York City. My mom is a wonderful trainer. she uses positive methods and loves to both reward and bribe us. Ridgebacks do not respond to heavy hands!! Miranda , Kota and Dreamer all have their HIC title, this means they herd sheep. Kota and myself are also CGC holders, Mom says the pups will be too when they get a bit older. We think it is very important that every on eis confident and well behaved.
I said Mom is worried about me. I have a tumor , while it is benign the location is a problem and it recently ruptured. So I have to take medication twice a day until Friday, May 2. Then I will go see my vet who will remove it for me. Mom is worried because this will be a very loong surgery and that is not good for me at my age. Being a Scent and Sight Hound I have a very deep chest and that means anesthesia is rough on me. Mom has promised to be a few feet away when I have my surgery , just in case I need her. and since Momis a retired RN I will go home with her as soon as I wake up....I don't like to stay away from my family. Since Mom can take care of me I do not have to.
I would love to learn how to make my page pretty like some of the ones I have seen and I would love to talk to folks who show and raise therapy dogs like my mom, while we love all dogs we really like RRs the very best.
Anyway that's a bit about me, I hope to meet a lot of new friends very soon !!
