He makes a little dolphin-noise and backs up when he wants something.

Arrival Story:
Tucker's life was one of uncertainty and boredom, the worst of circumstances for any dog. He'd been "owner-abdandoned" several times and "owner-surrendured" at pounds and shelters throughout the northeast, due to his daily aerobic requirements. His last shelter stay was for 2 months, after being abandonded there by his 'family'. He was left at the shelter with an open, hind leg fracture, malnourished and muliple lacerations. Thankfully, the devout angels at the shelter nursed his injuries and contacted GSP Rescue.org, who placed him in a foster home for several months.

Bio:
We adopted this amazing boy in November, 2006. Since that time, we've enjoyed every single moment with 'buttah head' boy. Tucker is every bit a GSP, and one with insatiable fielding abilities. He doesn't walk by our side or even pay too much attention to us while we're out, preferring to run far beyond to hunt, flush, swim, etc. with his GSP brother, Max. He joyfully engages this innate ability chasing rabbits, squirrels, birds and runs appx. 8-10 miles a day with preference to the trails less traveled :) At the end of the day, he's a total lap dog! His favorite place is the beach where he chases sandpipers and gulls, and his swimming staminar is unfathomable. He doesn't stop from the moment we arrive till we depart, albeit begrudgedly :) He prefers the strength and current of the ocean to lakes or rivers. He's an adroit climber and scales rocky hills rapidly and effortlessly. He's become quite agile and is well behaved when taken anywhere along with his GSP sister, Vayla, GSP brother, Max, and terrior mix brother, Joey. Tucker's opened my eyes to the necessity of breed-specific rescue work, because as Tucker's history of abandonment indicates; this breed is not for every household. I'm so lucky to have Tucker - he's the most respectful and gentlemanly male dog I've ever known, which is only one of a thousand Tucker-endearing traits!

I Have a Brother JUST LIKE ME

December 16th 2008 8:18 am   [link to this entry]

I am a CHANGED boy!

I'm a 'fielder' type of GSP; and that means that I need to be out front, scattering about, following scents and sounds - always on the move, scaling ledges, swimming, leaping and always in hot pursuit of prey. I only stop to eye point at grouse, pheasants and yes, chipmunks! Since I'm very fast and athletic, my older GSP sister, Vayla, can't keep up with me - and Joey only comes when he knows there's a meal in it for HIM :) So..... I was largely out front without a pal for the past two years.

This past August, my Mom brought Max into our home - and it was not long after that he became a part of our family. At first, my impression was ...... he's a little on the bossy side. I soon came to realize, Max is the best! Mom worked with Max, so he wouldn't usurp our position in the pack and at home - and we are all on the same level now and completely appreciate one another's environ. What I love most is he can keep up with me in the woods, he loves to chase me at the beach (take a look at the video of us at the beach) and accompanies me hunting for rabbits at the parks. He's become my constant companion, both inside and outside of the home. My Mom is thrilled at the transformation. When she sees us together running out onto a trail from the thick brush, she smiles and commends us! It gratifies her to no end!! Max and I also sleep in the bed together, get kisses from Mom together, lay around on the sofas, drink from our water bowl at the same time and NEVER get bossy with one another.

Max and I innately understand one another - we are fielders. Vayla is more of a gunner (stays closer to Mom). But the most important thing I realize is - I have a pup just like me and we are true brothers.

I've been tagged by my pawsome friend, the beautiful Sophie Claire!!

I have to list 7 things about me in this diary.

1. I get 2 hours a day of running and/or swimming.

2. I am funny and make my mom laugh... a lot!!

3. I require a lot of independence outside, so I can find something dead, dying or decomposed and roll in it :(

4. I have excellent recall.

5. I love running in the woods with my family.

6. I make a dolphin-like noise and run backwards when I want something.

7. I wouldn't change a thing about my life or my family!

Now.... I have to tag 7 pawsome pups............. Hmmmm.... After you finish reading the diary, my pup pals listed below have to tag 7 of their favorite pup pals. Then write in your diary, and be sure to pmail the pups and tell them they've been tagged.

1. Rook
2. Flicka
3. Jake
4. Bentley
5. Bailey
6. Sybil Marie
7. Tasha

An Honor Bestowed!

Wow, I'm so surprised!

I've been named "Furriend of the Day" (FOTD) by a most special group, BBF. If you've not heard - any pup who's anypup is among the membership. They are a wonderfully active group and love their pups lots. My BBF furriends have been sending me gifts and pawpal requests throughout the day, and I feel like a celebrity.

This is EXACTLY what a day in the life of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton must be like! Have to tell my Mom that during our run, I may need to disguise myself - don't wan't to be accosted by those pesty two-legged paparazzi!!
