Quick Bio:

Birthday: January 14th 2002 Likes: Belly rubs and playing. Dandy likes to bring you toys to throw for her. She only does this inside the house. If you take a toy outside for her, she looks at you like you are crazy. Pet-Peeves: Fireworks, other dogs barking. Favorite Toy: A stuffed squeaky tomato, a stuffed grunting eggplant, a stuffed squeaky ball.... pretty much anything stuffed that makes noise. Favorite Food: Fromm (any), Solid Gold, Wellness. Favorite Walk: Anywhere. Best Tricks: Carrying water bottles to the recycle bin, helping unload the car, and removing hats from people. Arrival Story: Awhile after our 14 year-old lab mix passed away I started wanting another dog. I read a lot of profiles on Petfinder and none of them hit me the right way. Chopper had been a yellow lab mix and I didn't want it to feel like I was replacing her, because of course you can not replace a pet. I searched for lab mixes, preferring chocolate or black. Late one night, the site was moving at a snail's pace. I read the description before the picture loaded and burst into tears. The profile said Dandy was happy to be somewhere where she was fed every day, and, they'd added, "I love to be touched". She was marked URGENT as she was out of time and about to be euthanized. I knew this was the dog for our family. Then the photo loaded and I saw she was a yellow lab mix! We filled out an application and drove to Kentucky to get her that weekend. She was so thin you could see her backbone and her fur came out by the handful (which reminded us of dandelion fluff). She had very obviously been abused and was scared of men. Bio: Dandy is the shining star in our dog sky! She is protective, affectionate, and very silly. When we brought her home, she was fine with the cats and our other dog, Lucky, but expressed fear anytime a person picked up something she thought they might hit her with. She had separation anxiety whenever we left the house and destroyed many sets of window blinds in a panic. We've worked out all those issues and now Dandy is a much happier, confident dog with the heart of a lion - a Dandy Lion! Forums Motto: Did Mom say it was okay? The Groups I'm In: "Cobblestone Square", A Rescued Dog's Group The Last Forum I Posted In: Hi Evfurrypup! Who wants a rosie!?
When Mom brought Charlie home and introduced us, I was not sure how this was going to work. Charlie was so small, smaller than the cats. What am I supposed to do with a tiny sister? I told Mom, "I hope you kept the receipt." But she is pretty tough and we have a TON of fun together! We chase each other around the backyard (and through the living room, but Mom doesn't like that so much) and play tug of war with our toys. Sometimes Charlie takes my treat, and one day she ran out of the room with my entire food bowl! But I just tell Mom and she gets it back for me. When Lucky was still here, I was her little sister. I didn't think I'd like being the big sister, but I like it. I like it A LOT!
I don't get cats. What do they want? Sometimes they come up and bonk me in the face, but they never, and I mean NEVER bring a bone or squeaky toy with them. I tell them to go get a toy if they want to play, but they just walk by, rubbing up against me, then turn around and go back the other way. I'm telling you, it's not right, it's not right AT ALL.
After being chained to a tree for almost the whole first year of my life, I never much cared for being outside. I always wanted to be inside, where my comfy bed was, where there's food and a bowl of cool water. Mom would go outside to do yardwork and Lucky would stay outside with her, but not me, nosiree. I wanted back in the house. But now sometimes when Mom goes out to work in the yard, I stay out there too. It doesn't seem so bad... I can nap in the sun or move to the shade if it gets too hot, the birds are singing, there's always a bowl of water in the shade and there are so many things to smell. Plus Mom always stops what she's doing and plays with us for awhile! When Mom goes in, she always asks us if we're coming in too, or if we want to stay out. Lucky likes to stay out, and says it's OK - Mom will keep checking back to see if we want in, and we can always bark once for "please open the door". I didn't believe her at first, then decided to trust her and you know what? It's TRUE! We really can stay out for as long as we want and go in whenever we decide to!!! So I'm really starting to like this being outside thing. Mom noticed my nose was getting darker from being outside. I'm losing my pink "snow nose" and getting a big black nose, just like Lucky's!
