New baby brother

So last week I went to spend the night at Uncle Roland's. Except it wasn't just one night, it was a bunch of nights. Mom and Dad were gone all that time. When they finally came to get me they had a new puppy. Except it wasn't really a puppy, because it wasn't like me. It was like a little tiny Dad. They called it a baby. Well, sometimes they call it an Alex.

The Alex doesn't move around or play or anything. Mom and Dad just hold it a lot. I still think it's interesting, though. I like to smell it and lick its toes. Sometimes it makes noise, but not very often. Mom and Dad promise it will get more fun, but it's going to take a long time. I guess I'll just have to take their word for it.

On the plus side, Dad has been taking me for lots of walks. A couple of nights ago, we got to see my friends Savannah and Dutch. Savannah's family has a new puppy, too, except this one is actually a puppy. We got to play in Savannah's yard for a long time. When I came home I was really tired, and Mom said I smelled like grass. Good times.

Baby brother, coming soon!

Mom is huge. Dad's been taking me on my walks lately, though sometimes Uncle Roland helps. I'm going to stay with Uncle Roland for a couple days next week, because Mom and Dad (AND Grammie and Grampy!) are going to go get my new baby brother. They must be going to a different breeder than the one I came from, because they didn't have to stay overnight to get me!

Mom said she might take me to a groomer before then. I've never been to a groomer before, but it doesn't sound like I'll like it much.

A New Year!

My first Christmas was so much fun! I got to tear up lots of paper! By the time I was done, Grammie and Grampy's living room floor was decorated with lots and lots of tiny pieces of wrapping paper.

I got to spend lots of time at Grammie and Grampy's house. We were there for Christmas, then Mom and Dad went away for a few days. They came back for a day, but then they brought me back to Grammie and Grampy's house to spend the night on New Year's Eve. Grammie took me for a walk that night, but I didn't like the fireworks very much.

Everybody keeps telling me what a good dog I'm becoming. I walk with a loose leash, and I don't make messes in the house, and I tell Mom and Dad when I need to go outside. I like being a good dog.

Mom keeps telling me I'm going to have to be a good big sister. I'm not quite sure what that means, but I'll try to do it.

The last three times I've gone to the dog park, I've gotten to play with Belle. Belle is six months older than I am, and we love to run and wrestle. Belle doesn't like to swim like I do, but she's getting braver. She'll wade in up to her shoulders while I swim. We had so much fun last night, our moms let us play even after it was dark out!

Catching Up

It's been a long time since I've written. It's been raining a LOT. We had a storm, and Mom was home from school for a few days. There was a bunch of wind and rain. I don't like to go out to potty when it rains, but Mom made me anyway. We spent a lot of time at Uncle Roland's house, though, which was cool.

For a few days, it rained all the time, but now it only rains sometimes, so Dad is taking me for walks again. I'm getting better at leash walking -- at least, that's what Dad usually tells Mom when we get back. Mom wishes she could walk with us, but she can't walk fast enough to keep up with us yet.

The biggest news is that Mom told me I'm going to be a big sister. In April, Mom is going to have a puppy, except they don't call it that. They call it a baby. This means that I have to learn to be very good and gentle and not jump up on stuff. I usually try to be good, but sometimes things are just so exciting that I HAVE to jump. I guess we're going to be working a lot on "OFF" and "SETTLE." Those aren't my favorite tricks.

Boys are mean!

I'm always the only girl at the dog park. Today Mac and Dylan were there, as well as another dog named Jasper, and a pair of dogs named Elvis and Fritz. Elvis was nice, but very big. I liked chasing him, but when we'd wrestle I'd get squished. Jasper was fun to chase and play with, too, but when the other boys were around, he'd get them to gang up on me. I can handle Jasper by himself, but Jasper AND Dylan? Dylan is HUGE! And Mac's pretty big, too. I'm pretty rough and tumble, but I don't stand a chance against 150+ pounds of boy dogs.

Boys should fight less and chase more. I like to chase.

FLYBALL!

We went to the dog park first thing in the morning today, which was unusual. Usually Dad walks me in the mornings. This morning, though, Mom told me to tell Dad goodbye, and we got in the car and went to the park. I made LOTS of new friends at the park today! Mac was there, and I also played with Dylan, Simon, Elwood, and a few other dogs. I ran and played and wrestled and ran some more! By the time Mom hosed me off and we got back in the car, I was good and tired.

We drove for a long time, but it didn't seem like it because I slept the whole way. When we got where we were going, there were more dogs than I've ever seen in my whole life! It was a flyball tournament. I met (and gave lots of kisses to) the captain of the flyball team Mom wants me to practice with, and I got to watch lots of fast dogs play. Captain says I'm not old enough to do the jumps or box work yet, but I can run down the chute at least and get the feel of it.

I sure hope I grow up to be fast!

More adventures at the dog park

I have a new friend. His name is Bengal, and he's a greyhound. He's very tall, and has really, really long legs. He's faster than Mac -- even when he's running through the water.

He doesn't like when I bite his legs or get on his blind side (he can't see out of one eye). I have a couple scrapes on my nose from him teaching me those lessons, but it's okay. Dad says you can't really and truly be a tomboy without a few scrapes.

Mom says she's going to take me to the park early tomorrow, and then we're going to take a long car ride to someplace really exciting. I can't wait to see where it is!

FINALLY!

Mom took me to the dog park! WOOHOO! There's a lot of room to run, and there's a pond to get in, and other dogs! Well... dog. There was only one other dog there when we went. His name is Mac, and he's big and fast. I chased him all over! In the water, around the trees, wherever.

Mom says I need to get faster if I'm going to play flyball, but she feels pretty confident since I'm already so big and strong at 5 months.

Let me just say again: WOOHOO!

Obedience

Ha ha! My new teacher told Mom that she shouldn't use harsh verbal corrections with me (contrary to what she learned at my puppy kindergarten class), because I'm an Aussie and I'm sensitive. My poor tender puppy feelings will get hurt! Mom believed her. Sucker.

For the sake of appearances, I come when I'm called at puppy school. My teacher thinks I do a great job. She doesn't know I'm not so good at home. My leash walking needs work, though, and I'm not so good at lying on my mat, either. I'm sorry, I can only do so much "down stay" before I get bored. I made a new friend at school, though. Bella is bigger than me, and doesn't let me push her around. I like to play with her.
