Arrival Story:
I'm a little brown pup who never made it home. The first time I saw my new mommy was Monday afternoon (April 21). When she found me, I was under a big pile of puppies, and all she could see was my little brown head. I was there with all my brothers and sisters (some of them were pitbulls) because our doggy moms had owners that didn't know what to do with us. When the lady pulled me out of that puppy pile, I opened my little baby eyes and saw Mommy for the very first time. She only held me for a little while before the kennels had to close, but she said she might come back tomorrow to give me a home.

Now I'm a real angel. Thank you so much to Pat for helping me learn to fly.

Is that you heaven?

"The next morning, Mommy thought and thought about what to do. She had been looking for a special little pup for weeks now but wasn't sure she would have enough time to spend with such a little puppy. She really wanted to take me away from that place, but she felt a little guilty wanting a puppy since there were a lot of other dogs needing homes too, and she knew that someone else would see me and take me home right away. All morning long, she tried to figure out what to do until she finally decided she just had to rush over there and scoop me up.

When the lady came to fish me out of the puppy pile again, she took me straight to my mommy. I wasn't sure who she was at first, but when she held me to her heart, I knew. It wasn't long before she was filling out the paperwork to take me home. When she was done with that, she held me and loved me until I fell sound asleep. After quite a long time (though it seemed really short), it was time for my mommy to go.

Later that day, Daddy and Courtney (my big sis) came to visit. At first they couldn't find me (because I was buried in that puppy stack again), but when they finally did, they were happy and amazed at how adorable I was. (if they only knew that the one precious hour they saw me that day would be all the time we would have)

As they said bye for the night, they hugged me, tucked me in with my brothers, and gave me one last look before they walked out the door. I tried to get them to take me home right then, but the rules said I had to be neutered first."

Here's how the story played out from there:

Our little Browniecakes had to stay one more night and was set to be neutered the next morning (4/23). We were supposed to pick him up to go home between 4 and 6 that afternoon. Around 8 that morning, the vet clinic called and said our baby had Parvo and would have to be euthanized. We would never see him again.

We called our own vet to ask for advice. They said there is a treatment for Parvo, but it is quite intensive and would cost $1500 or more, and the pup would only have a 50/50 chance of making it through. They also said that it's extremely contagious and could stay in the ground for 2 years.

So we're sad and miserable now, and this really sucks! It definitely makes us appreciate our other pup, Matty, a whole lot more.

We love you Brownie--hope you have a lot of fun in puppy heaven!
