Arrival Story:
For years I had been wanting a dog. After buying our first home, I suggested to my husband that we could adopt a dog. He felt we should wait until we settled into our new home. Every day I emailed him profiles of puppies for adoption. Every day he asked me to stop emailing him the profiles. I didn't listen. One evening, sitting in our family room, my husband said, "this is the one." He handed me the laptop to show me Lilly's picture and profile. At that moment, we were both inlove with our little girl. Only days later, we were at the rescue agency meeting Lilly. At that time, her name was 'Lovey'. We sat for several minutes with Lilly and her siblings. They were wild and energetic. Lilly was quiet and sitting in a corner. When she saw us sit down in their fenced in room, she walked up to us. The three of us connected immediately. We wanted to take her home immediately. However, that was not possible. We filled out required paperwork and made an appointment for a home visit. After our applicatoin and home visit were approved, we waited for the call telling us wether she would e ours. It was torture waiting for the agency's call, knowing wether they believed we would be the best home for her. I knew she was meant to be our little girl. I became overly anxious with anticipation. Finally, we received the good news. We could pick her up that evening. Before we picked up Lilly, we stopped at the pet store to buy her a bed and a few toys. When we arrived at the agency, Lilly was calmly lying on the floor being pet. We brought her to our friends house that evening. We had previous plans to play games with friends. The entire evening, she stayed quietly cuddled on her bed. She was the perfect puppy. Even though her name 'Lovey' suited her personality, it just didn't seem to fit her. We talked over many names, and we decided to turn to pages in the dictionary and point to words. LILLY. PERFECT. She is beautiful and delicate like the flower.

Bio:
Lilly was likely the 'runt' of the litter, but she was our supermodel. She didn't appear to enjoy the rough play of her siblings. Lilly was extremely timid and fearful. At the same time, you couldn't find a sweeter , better behaved, and more affectionate puppy. After bringing her home, we worked daily to help her overcome her social anxiety, insecurity, and timidity. We brought her everywhere: the mall, family gatherings, friends homes, parks, etc... Month by month she improved, though it was slow. Eventually, we signed her up for an obedience class. By the last day of the series of classes, she finally joined the group of other dogs. The rest of the time, she had been behind a screen learning her signals. She was quick to learn sit, down, up. She just wasn't ready to join the group: she shook with fear when near the other dogs. We continued to do everything to socialize her, and she continued to improve. After about a year, we decided that another dog (the right dog) would not only be great company for her; but, potentially it could help her sense of security. Before committing, we became foster parents. Prince Charming was our first and last foster dog. With the exception of a few normal adjustment issues, they were a perfect match. And, now Lilly is doing well. It is rare that she shakes with fear (except when it is time to be groomed). With Prince by her side, she is confident and happy.
