A year to remember - 2008

Two tough years with losses that cut us to the core, but we rally and stand strong. Mom will openly admit that she has never gotten over the loss of Tara. It haunts her to this day and we catch her looking on Petfinder for another black Chow. We will not be adopting again at this point but we certainly feel mom's pain. This year started out pretty good. Bruno celebrated his 10th birthday and seemed in good spirits until mid January when he showed severe pain for the first time. Within weeks he progressively got worse until he could barely walk at all. Pain meds would work great for a few days and then needed to be increased just to ease some of the pain and help his restless nights. The difficult decision to let him peacefully go came on February 9, 2008. Rest in Peace Big Guy, we love and miss you. The amount of Dogster support we received was a real Godsend. We also had lots of donations to different animal rescue organizations done in his name. We were and still are deeply touched. Thank you all. In the fall of 2007 we agreed to take Dragon into our home but we couldn't travel to Indiana until spring break at the end of March. On March 29, 2008 Dragon joined our family and became one of the gang. This was a bittersweet addition so soon after the loss of Bruno, but Dragon has proved to be very good for the soul. His lighthearted actions and puppyish behaviors bring joy to the family. He is also great with Teddy. In the spring our hubro made his Confirmation. This was a glorious celebration and a very special time in his life. He also got his permit to start driving. Watch out if you drive in MN. BOL! Tara's memorial tree, a beautiful Royal Red Maple, survived it's first MN winter and came back in the spring. It was a beautiful sight to see and we all look forward to seeing it grow each year. Bruno's ashes were buried with a Hotwings Maple tree this spring. We also look forward to seeing it come back and thrive each year. Yuki had a minor surgery this year to remove a tumor from his eyelid and the procedure went flawlessly. He's still crabby but the vet isn't a miracle worker. Teddy was next at the vet with a tooth extraction on a fractured molar and several visits for intense itching due to progressing allergies. He's still a little itchy but we're hoping a food change will also help. Benedryl has become his friend. As for the rest of us, just a typical check up and we were on our way. Big national news was the presidential election, of course. It was history in the making and President Elect Obama will soon be taking office. Lets all pray that he does a good job and helps our economy get back on track. Mia's Bears are having a mediocre year. They do have a shot of making the playoffs but they must win this Sunday and have help. Go Bears!!! That is the year in a nutshell. We extend a blessing for all our Dogster pals. We hope you have a healthy and happy 2009. Our love to you all.

We got pressies from another COUNTRY!! Wow, that traveled a long way to get to us. We got lots of great pressies. We got lots of toys and treats. Mia got a brush in her stocking and Yuki got a new collar. Teddy and Dragon were checking out their new toys and collar charms as was Chester. We sure are lucky to have such special friends!

Minnesota winters can be brutal! Tonight we will plummet to 0 degrees with a windchill in the teens below 0. Mom is pulling out the boots for us to help keep our feet warm. If it is already this cold, we dread to think what January will be like. Please Mother Nature, warm us up a little :)

We were tagged!

We were tagged by the lovely Golden Girls. We need to list 7 pawsome facts about ourselves and tag 7 more pups.

1) Remarkably, we all get along pretty well.

2) Teddy and Dragon attend playgroups on Saturdays and Mia goes every so often

3) We are all rescued pups. Dragon came directly from a home that could no longer keep him and the rest of us were from the shelter or animal control. Please adopt an unwanted pup

4) Yuki is the oldest of us and also the boss.

5) We hosted a page for a pup named Samson in Indiana and were very excited to hear he was adopted last week! Hurray for Samson!! We hope you love your new life.

6) Most of us sleep on the bed with the pawrents. They really need to find a new place to sleep because they don't give us enough room to sleep. BOL!

7) We love Dogster and all our pals. We have celebrated the joys of new additions and birthdays and we have felt the sorrows of lives lost. The support though has always been a real blessing.

off to tag our pals

So that took all of one day to change our names again. Our good pals from Wiltshire suggested the Festive Five and mom LOVES it! This will work not only for Thanksgiving but also for Christmas. So as it stands we will now be The Festive Five! until the new year.

As if it wasn't bad enough that mom keeps changing Mia's name, she is now changing our group name too! We are the MN Gang, but for Halloween we were the Frightful Five and now she had this great idea of calling us the Thankful Five to celebrate Thanksgiving. So once again we have a new name and are currently The Thankful Five.
