Chilly start to spring

While the calendar might say it is officially spring, the temperatures here lately don't seem to agree. We will struggle to even reach 32 degrees today (it is currently 23 degrees at noon). We are happy it is spring because we know warmer days are ahead, but for now we are stuck in an extended winter. Did you know that there is even a chance of snow next week? What?! Yep, we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Also, we here at the MN Gang wish to extend our thoughts and prayers for those along the Red River and other local rivers that are forcing folks to leave their homes as flood predictions continue to show the rivers will rise above originally predicted levels by the time they crest in the days ahead. We pray that all of the sandbagging efforts will be able to hold the river at bay and protect people's homes.

**** Snow Alert ****

Yikes! They are forecasting 8" of snow to fall throughout the afternoon and early evening. Not that we have had tons of snow this year, but we are just sick and tired of winter!! Chester loves the stuff but that is about it. Old man winter, will you please hibernate and let spring and warmer days arrive? We have been so cold this season and we really want a break.

On the bright side, the kids are being released from school early today due to the snow so we will have some extra play time!

Cold weather and updates

Brrrrrrr, this has been a frigid winter and just as we thought we were seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, another cold front moves in. We are anxiously waiting for spring so we can see the flowers grow and watch the memorial trees spring back into action. Last year Tara's tree came back beautifully and we know Bru's tree will flourish too. We're thinking warm thoughts! :)

Alas, yet another page update and name change. Silly mom likes to change our names for the holidays so now we are ready for St. Patrick's Day. I hate to break it to her but we aren't even Irish.....BOL! The old saying goes though that everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day! We added a new playlist for the occasion, too. Enjoy.

Guess What?

Our hubro passed the driving portion of his test today and is now a licensed driver! Of course, there is always drama here so it came at a price. Here is where the adventure begins......BOL First, he gets picked up early from school to take the test. That went smoothly and he took over driving to the testing facility. He then parks and fills out all the necessary paperwork. The instructor comes out and makes sure the car is working properly and all lights and signals are functional and then the test begins. The test goes very smoothly and he passes easily. Well, he is so excited about passing that he locks the keys in the car. They are about 30 minutes from home and there is no way to get the spare key. Luckily, he had a friend nearby that picked them up and drove them home to get the extra key. Afterwards, his friend drove him back to the car and he drove home for the very first time by himself!! So, he passed and has a license now. There was just a little drama to go along with it. BOL Oh, and while waiting for his friend they were able to walk to the court house to get the picture taken for the license. What should have been just over a one hour trip took two hours. BOL, at least it is over and all is well. :)

Finally, a warm up!

Whew, after 4 days in the DEEP freeze, we will actually be above zero today! In fact, today should be in the 20's which will feel great! I guess you could say we are kinda wimpy because we don't even like to be out at all when it is below zero like it has been for so many consecutive days. We even started a day with -25 degrees and that was actual temperature, we don't even want to talk about what it felt like with the wind chill. We know old man winter is still here but we will take this warm up and ride it out as long as we can.

Hope all our Dogster pals are staying warm.

Brrrrrrrrrr, it was -25 degrees this morning and the forcasted high for today will be -5 degrees. This is the third day in a row that we have yet to even reach zero degrees. We should be called the Frigid Five right now!

Today is pawsome though because the kids are home from school today due to the extremely cold temperatures! That means we have some inside play time!

Today is also Angel Bruno's birthday. He is missed so much! Happy birthday in heaven Bru. We always loved how you enjoyed your treats, especially your ice cream cone. Your eyes would get all wide and you loved it so much! If we could have a wish, it would be to send you Dairy Queen in heaven.

Stay warm Dogster pals! Stay safe and inside

A year to remember - 2008

Two tough years with losses that cut us to the core, but we rally and stand strong. Mom will openly admit that she has never gotten over the loss of Tara. It haunts her to this day and we catch her looking on Petfinder for another black Chow. We will not be adopting again at this point but we certainly feel mom's pain. This year started out pretty good. Bruno celebrated his 10th birthday and seemed in good spirits until mid January when he showed severe pain for the first time. Within weeks he progressively got worse until he could barely walk at all. Pain meds would work great for a few days and then needed to be increased just to ease some of the pain and help his restless nights. The difficult decision to let him peacefully go came on February 9, 2008. Rest in Peace Big Guy, we love and miss you. The amount of Dogster support we received was a real Godsend. We also had lots of donations to different animal rescue organizations done in his name. We were and still are deeply touched. Thank you all. In the fall of 2007 we agreed to take Dragon into our home but we couldn't travel to Indiana until spring break at the end of March. On March 29, 2008 Dragon joined our family and became one of the gang. This was a bittersweet addition so soon after the loss of Bruno, but Dragon has proved to be very good for the soul. His lighthearted actions and puppyish behaviors bring joy to the family. He is also great with Teddy. In the spring our hubro made his Confirmation. This was a glorious celebration and a very special time in his life. He also got his permit to start driving. Watch out if you drive in MN. BOL! Tara's memorial tree, a beautiful Royal Red Maple, survived it's first MN winter and came back in the spring. It was a beautiful sight to see and we all look forward to seeing it grow each year. Bruno's ashes were buried with a Hotwings Maple tree this spring. We also look forward to seeing it come back and thrive each year. Yuki had a minor surgery this year to remove a tumor from his eyelid and the procedure went flawlessly. He's still crabby but the vet isn't a miracle worker. Teddy was next at the vet with a tooth extraction on a fractured molar and several visits for intense itching due to progressing allergies. He's still a little itchy but we're hoping a food change will also help. Benedryl has become his friend. As for the rest of us, just a typical check up and we were on our way. Big national news was the presidential election, of course. It was history in the making and President Elect Obama will soon be taking office. Lets all pray that he does a good job and helps our economy get back on track. Mia's Bears are having a mediocre year. They do have a shot of making the playoffs but they must win this Sunday and have help. Go Bears!!! That is the year in a nutshell. We extend a blessing for all our Dogster pals. We hope you have a healthy and happy 2009. Our love to you all.
