Birthday:
April 21st 2008

Likes:
Each other, treats, sleeping in our bed

Pet-Peeves:
Chester and Yuki don't like dogs passing the house. Chester hates the doorbell

Favorite Toy:
Yuki, Mia, Chester, and Dragon love squeaky plush toys. The newer the better

Favorite Food:
Innova senior and Wellness Core. They love Smokehouse Beefy Bites, Merrick treats, homemade treats, bully sticks. Not too picky

Favorite Walk:
Around the neighborhood

Best Tricks:
Teddy and Chester both have their CGC

Arrival Story:
We adopted Chester from the humane society in 2003 when he was 3 years old. He had been returned a few times before so we are his 4th home. He is a bit difficult since he has such high anxiety but we believe he is very happy to have a permanent structured environment. Mia arrived in March of 2005. She was an unclaimed stray. We put a hold on her sight unseen and drove 500 miles each way to pick her up. It was love at first sight! Teddy came in August 2005 and was a shy owner turn in. He is so much more outgoing now. Yuki arrived in September of 2007. He was in terrible shape at the pound and 10+ years old. He'll live out his retirement years with us! Dragon arrived in March of 2008. He's the new guy and fits in well. He was a free to good home pup from a family that couldn't keep him and thought he'd be better off with us. Teddy and Dragon are fast becoming great friends.

Would we change a thing?

These are rough days ahead for the MN Gang but would we have changed anything? Of course not.

Never in a million years would we have believed that 3 of our 5 dogs would be so seriously ill at the same time but that is what has happened. I would guess part of us knew it could happen since they are mostly all seniors but it is still incomprehensible. The biggest shock was last month when Mia went in congestive heart failure. At age 10 that was painful to accept. She had the world's worst month in October and every complication imaginable but in the end it paid off. We pulled her through so she can enjoy more time with us and hopefully ring in the New Year.

Yuki is at least 15 years of age. He has a bad heart, stones that can't be removed because he can longer handle anesthesia for surgery, and he has lost most of the use of his rear. He still manages to get around and until that changes or he loses the will the live he is still happy to be here.

Chester, the most recent in a string of bad news. A rare form of skin cancer that spreads through the body. We don't know how far it has progressed but currently he is doing well. In August we noticed the entire gum line along his teeth suddenly reddened and inflamed. That was seemingly overnight. We took him to the vet and she has never seen anything like it. She had a few theories - infection, allergic reaction to tartar, auto-immune response, or cancer. She placed cancer at the bottom of the list. We started by giving him antibiotics but that didn't work. We did a dental to see if it was the allergy to tartar but that turned out not to be the case either. At the time of the dental we had them biopsy the tissue. We had them hold the samples to first see if the dental would solve the problem. When it didn't work we sent in the sample. That news was devastating. Epitheliotropic lymphoma. Hopefully the prednisone treatment will help slow down the progression of his cancer.

Even though we are experiencing so much heartache right now, we still wouldn't change a thing. The love and loyalty they have given us has been a blessing. The loss of a pet is huge but never experiencing their lifetime of love and loyalty would be a much greater loss.

Thanks for listening

Tidbits here and there

Howdy pals, we hope all our furiends are enjoying the magic of Christmas and Hanukkah. No matter where you live or what you celebrate, take a moment to just enjoy.

We just got back from Indiana after attending the funeral of our human dad's father. Daddy was sad so we had to go along for the trip and try to keep him happy. We think it worked, too. We were there for a little while, longer than expected actually. Even though we love visiting our relatives to the east, we were ever so happy to be back home.

A few interesting tidbits

Mia had to get groomed because there is a groomer down there that mom likes and she took the opportunity of being in the area to get Mia gussied up for Christmas. BOL!! Dad said she looked the same but she actually got trimmed so she wouldn't be such a dust mop that picks up everything.

Our mom came back from the wake to find Dragon having another seizure. That was super scary!! He came out of it fairly quickly and we can't help but think stress played a big part of it coming on that way.

The day of the funeral, it snowed. Frozen tears??

Yuki was ready to have his cyst drained but low and behold, it drained on its own on our last day in Indiana or on the way home. He is no longer a unicorn.

Finally, we received a package of pressies all the way from England! Sure makes us feel like royalty~ Thank you so much Dolly, Parsley, Lola, and Ethel (the Golden Girls)

So there is our tidbits of info. We are happy to be back home and happy to call you all our furiends.

Enjoy the magic of the holidays. It is a wondrous time of year.

Love,
The MN Gang
