Arrival Story:
Elizabeth was a very sweet dog. Unfortunately, she started her life in an abusive situation. My husband found an ad in the newspaper & checked it out when I said I wanted a dog. She was tiny (possibly a runt), black, and had these beautiful Dachshund brown eyes. Her cutest mark was on her back left foot - she had all black nails except where she had a white mark and a white nail! When my husband asked what breed she was, he was told she was a Bichon Frise. If you take a look at HER photo and the file photo of a Bichon, you'll see why she was adopted. She was also a little skittish and shy.

Bio:
After we took her to the vet for her first round of puppy shots, the vet found scars from cigarette burns on her tummy (which did'nt make us look like good dog parents...). We also had trouble housebreaking her because she was afraid of the stove, which is near the back door (which is near the basement steps, which she was also afraid of...). As she grew up, she was still afraid of strange people & it was hard to socialize her. As she got older, she began to lose her sight and hearing (as some seniors do...), but I also think this too was partially selective - I'd call her to come in and she'd stand there, but I could see her ears moving. The summer before she passed, we started going to the Saturday morning Farmer's Market Downtown. I'd tell people who admired her how old she was (18yrs), and she let strange people pet her and strange dogs smell her. She seemed very happy. Then, on February 17 of 2007, she had a stroke at 5AM. I knew it was time - she had had surgery for a tumor on her leg about a year previous. It was hard ,but I held her in my arms one last time and said goodbye.

Forums Motto:
I loved her a lot and I miss her.
