Arrival Story:
We started looking for a Great Dane to add to our home, and were not surprised by the cost and requirements. We decided to try a rescue league, and looked on-line for our new pet. We were just about to call about a dog, when a last search on Father's Day led us to a near-by farm that advertised Great Dane puppies. We called that Sunday - and sure enough, they answered, and wanted us to come to look at the puppies. They did, however, let us know that they were going to give the puppies away to anyone who would be able to see that they could get the expensive treatments the puppies needed because of the mange they had contacted from the mother. We were not sure what we would find, but when we arrived, we couldn't resist the cute (but mangy) puppies. We took our girl home that day, and began our new life - one that would include many injections to help until she was three months old and could start the dips. She just finished her last dip, and we have a clean bill-of-health! She is such a monster and the easiest puppy to potty train that I have ever seen! My husband passed away earlier this year, and we couldn't have done a nicer thing on Father's Day!

Bad News!

This morning on the news Mom and I heard that a pup died on their porch yesterday and the hospital is filled with dehydrated fur friends. The heat index will be 115 here at the beach today and I hope everyone gets to lay around indoors under the paddle fan in their air-conditioned bedroom. Here's praying for all those friends who aren't so lucky. Drink lots of the clear stuff!

Life's a Beach!

Hi everyone! My mom just took me (and my sister Skye) to the beach for a walk today. It was pretty hot here at North Myrtle Beach, but the wind was blowing hard - just like it always seems to do by this really big pool, so we were all comfortable. (I'm just glad there is an automatic cold wind in the car!) Now, I don't really like to get too close to the water in the pool, so I'm happy showing off to all the sun bathers and enjoying all the "wow's" that people give us. We walked for a little while, then headed home for an ice cube treat! People at my house don't feed me the stuff they eat, but those ice cubes are something they don't mind sharing :-)

This Spay Thing is for the Birds!

Hi everyone,

I am a really sick girl right now. My mom took me to get this "spay" thing done, and eeewwwwwww it really hurts. I had to wait until I was 11 months old because of my bad case of mange. Mange is found in my breed so spaying me so I can't make any more sick sick puppies is the best, but having to wait so long was really bad. I am a big girl now, and the surgery and healing are much "ruff"-er on me. I just wasn't strong enough until now. I probably got mange when I was a puppy because of my unhealthy immune system, and sure enough it struck again after my surgery. I was doing fine from Wed. to Sat., but right after that, I was shaking with a fever, and my surgery site was oozing something yucky! I went to the vets to stay on Monday, and he said my white blood cell count was really high. He gave me some yucky antibiotics and my mom is giving me two tablets two times a day. I'm feeling a good deal better now, so I hope we keep those pills coming. I'm not sure why my vet didn't think to give me antibiotics right after my surgery because of my immune system problem. Oh well, pretty soon I'll be able to run around the back yard with my sisters and life will be good again! In the mean time - I'm so glad my mom rescued me when I was just a bitty thing - I do cause her a lot of $$ outflow and scary times, but I sure do love her and I know she loves me :-)

See you all soon!
