Sleeping! He went to be groomed for the first time at 9 weeks old and almost fell asleep twice in the tub. Then he went to the vet's office two weeks later and fell asleep there too!

Pet-Peeves:
He doesn't like being alone but he gets over it and just falls asleep. :)

Favorite Toy:
Tirebiter's tire. He loves it when I put his kibble in it and he has to figure out how to get it out.

Favorite Food:
Kibble!

Favorite Walk:
He's not much of a walker. He likes to just laydown or roll around in the grass.

Best Tricks:
Speak!

Arrival Story:
I had been searching for either a Great Pyrenees or Anatolian Shepherd for quite some time. On April 10th 2008 my cat Duke passed away. That very night is when I read about a local litter of pups that needed homes. I couldn't believe that they were a mix of my two favorite breeds! The next day we drove out to the farm to see the pups. After holding a few of them suddenly my husband looked at me and said "It looks like you've made your choice" sure enough he had fallen asleep in my arms. The farmer looked at me and said "I think he made his choice." Upon leaving we learned that the pups father's name was Duke.

Bio:
Although Kael looks like a pure Pyr he is actually 70% Pyr and 30% Anatolian. You could see an almost even amount of Pyr and Anatolian in his mother while his father looked like a pure Pyr. When his adult coat comes in that will show how much Anatolian is in him. His mother weighed 85 pounds and his father weighed 130. He was the largest in the litter and is expected to be at least 100 pounds.

8 weeks - 12.6 pounds
10 weeks - 18.1 pounds
11 weeks - 21.6 pounds
14 weeks - 28.8 pounds
17 weeks - 34.5 pounds

Kael is very underweight. I'm in the process of upping his food. He has a great deal of catching up to do to get where he needs to be. His food has been switched to Blue Buffalo. He had his last round of shots this morning and the vet said he looks great even with being underweight. It bothers me though so I'm slowly upping the amount of food he eats. I'll try to update at 20 weeks, hopefully his weight will be closer to what it needs to be by then.

As of today, May 29th 2008, Kael is exactly 12 weeks old. Since we brought him home he has doubled in size and has been putting on almost exactly 3 pounds per week.

We've spoken to our vet about what type of shape he should be in and how much he should be fed. He has said that he would like Kael to be kept on the thin side. Throughout his growth we should continue to be able to feel at least 3 of his ribs on each side. He said that we should not free feed at all. He wants his growth to continue nice and steady so as not to put too much weight on his joints which could cause a lot of damage as he gets older.

Here is is weight progress so far.

8 weeks - 12.6 pounds
10 weeks - 18.1 pounds
11 weeks - 21.6 pounds

He will be weighed again at 14 weeks. If it's possible I will try to get him weighed at 3 months old on May 6th.
