Arrival Story:
This is Emma's Momma Pat here. Emma was a breed b*tch at a puppy mill in Christmas Valley, Oregon that was raided in January, 2008. and was one of almost 70 dogs rescued from the horrible conditions. All of the dogs were living in outdoor kennels with temps in the teens. She was pregnant but lost her litter shortly after the rescue. Her skin, coat, teeth and ears are in terrible shape and her coat was so matted that we had to have her shaved so we can treat her seborrhea and to start her coat in properly. The staff and volunteers at the Redmond Humane Society are to be commended for the wonderful work they did to get all of the pups out of their horrible conditions and allow them to move on to better lives. As soon as the Cavaliers were available for adoption my cousin Laura and I submitted an application to adopt her. So Miss Emma went from having no mommy to having 2 mommies!

Bio:
We do not know exactly how old Emma is but our vets best guess is between 3 and 5 years old. We picked 4 years old because that would be 1 less year she had to live in those terrible conditions. We also don't know who many litters she may have had but it's pretty obvious she was bred often. Despite this, she has a very loving temperment and craves attention. She does seem to have an issue with people or our other dogs being near her head; but we are working on that. Emma is not house trained but the saddest thing is she doesn't know how to play and has no idea what to do with a squeaky toy or a ball. Our 1st order of business is to teach our little Emma how to play!

Emma's Home Life

Starting to settle in

I'm starting to settle in and get a little more accustomed to life in a real home. I have 5 sisters now and we are beginning to get used to one another. I'd never lived in a home before but I really got used to sleeping in the pillows on Momma Pat's bed in a big hurry! BOL! And she even LET'S ME! Yesterday I was actually running around the yard chasing Ashleigh and Mollie! It was fun. Momma Pat was really happy that she saw me do that. I still haven't figured out what these things called toys, squeakies, woobies are though.
