Fioners, Wiggle butt
May 15th 2006
This very pretty blue female is new to our program and has just been transferred to foster care. We are getting to know her and so far are very pleased with her disposition and personality.
Please don't let her pictures fool you. Fiona looks grumpy in most of them but its only because she is not on someone's lap, cuddling. This girl is indeed very loving and wants nothing more than to snuggle up on the couch with a loved one.
Currently Fiona is in a home with 1 other neutered male dog (an Aussie) and a 2 year old child. The two dogs do not seem to mind each other, although they have not been allowed to socialize freely yet. They do check each other out through the crate and through the baby gate. Other than wanting to play, Fiona shows no signs of aggression toward our dog.
She does like our child. She gets quite concerned when our little girl Ava cries. She never shows aggression toward her and likes to follow her around. Every morning now, Ava wakes up and runs out of her room yelling Fiona Fiona!!!
We live in the country and do not have a fenced yard. We do take both dogs on a walk every morning and night to get them some exercise. Fiona does EXCELLENT on the leash! She was a little timid of going beyond the boundaries of the house, but now that she knows it's fun, she really enjoys her walks. She won't ever be for a runner though, she's pretty slow going and not in any hurry to get there! I have taken Fiona with me to the store and on different car rides. She does very well in the car, and waits patiently when I go in. Although one time she did stand on the horn and people were looking at my car like it was possessed! That was pretty funny, like she was telling me to hurry up!
Fiona sleeps in her crate at night. She also stays in her crate during the day. I think that once she is fully potty trained she will be just fine sleeping on a doggie bed in our room. She definitely likes to have her own bed!
I would like to see Fiona in a home with kids and probably a nice male companion doggie. She needs to be somewhere where she will be pampered though, as she loves to give kisses and cuddle! She's smiling everyday now and it's so nice to see her come out of her shell.
Fiona is not completely house trained, although she is getting there very fast. She does stay in her crate during the day when we are gone (although I don't think she's happy about it) and sleeps in her crate at night. She snores all night long and sleeps really hard!!
We are teaching her sit, stay, lay down and shake right now. She's got sit covered pretty well and it catching on to the others. She's very eager to please and is not stubborn or defiant in the least. We think she''s just happy to have a place where she's loved and fed!
Fiona is very cuddly and would sit next to you all day if she could. She has more energy now than compared to the first couple days we had her, but she's still very mellow and just wants to be with you. We doesn't seem to have a high prey drive and has not ever acted like she wants to go after the neighbor cats.
I think it would be good for her to be somewhere where she is inside with her people most of the time as she really prefers the indoors to the outdoors. She's very silly, loves to roll around and get a good belly rubbing! But her very favorite is just being able to lay around with us. And if she was aloud on the couch, we think she would be there all day!
Fiona's best attribute has to be that even though it is very apparent sh's endured very inhumane treatment, she just has bounced back, is the most loving dog, and enjoys just being near her people. She also gives the best dog kisses around!
Please see Fiona's MPR page for more information and photos.
