My Diary

Lexie's my angel now.

Lexie had been doing so well since her CHF diagnosis. The doctor had warned me that the meds she was on to manage the CHF would be very hard on her kidneys. Ultimately, failing kidneys did take her, this past Sunday the 3rd. She had been having constant diarrhea, was disoriented and imbalanced, and I didn't want her to end her life without the dignity and beauty she always had. It was the toughest decision of my life to date. Her Daddy and I stayed with her when she went to the Rainbow Bridge, and we know she'll be waiting for us when it's time to meet again. My heart is broken and I miss her more than my words can express. Lexie was my beauty, my lovebug, and my sunshine and the void in my heart from her passing will not be filled.
Rest in peace, my angel. Mommy loves you so much.
Xoxo.

How's everybody doing???

Checking in with all from my diary pages....summer is rapidly approaching! So far, I'm still doing well. The past couple days have been in the 80's and humid and I find that I'm minding the heat more than before, but the heart doc says that it's because of all my meds and underlying heart issues. I have to stay out of the sun and try not to overexert myself. Of course, Mommy starts freaking out inside every time I pant or breathe in any weird way! :) I'm still eating more than ever, taking my liquid meds, and begging for treats every chance I get. The last renal panel shows that some of my levels are high, but not the ones that are really bad. The vet and the cardio doc want to keep the meds the same since they're working so well, and we'll keep an eye on the renal situation.

Cross your paws that these meds keep working so well!

Love,
Lexie and Mommy

Haven't been on in a while...Mommy's been really busy! Thankfully, I don't really have much to report! :)
I went for my blood test at the vet yesterday to check my renal panel again, since the medicine(s) I'm taking for my heart problems can make me sick in that area. Hopefully, all will be OK and we can be trouble-free for even more time. I am feeling really good, eating Mommy and Daddy out of house and home, and am acting like my regular self again. My Weimaraner bros and sis really help keep me active, too (I kind of don't have a choice because they LOVE to play with me!!).

Fingers crossed, knock wood that all will be OK!!

Love,
Lexie and Mommy

CHF Check up

I went today for a check up, the first since my last CHF event (April 15th). Mommy was really nervous and anxious about going back to the cardiologist. We went in and Erica, the cardio nurse, was SO hapy to see me and right away couldn't believe how great I looked! I went back to see Dr. Cole and he did an xray, and then he showed Mommy that my heart had SHRUNK to it's normal size and was no longer enlarged, NO sign of fluid, my lungs are completely clear, and Erica and Dr. Cole called me the miracle dog!!!!! It would seem that my beef and chicken flavored liquid meds that I've been taking, especially Pimobendan, are WORKING for me!!! Mommy was so happy that she was crying when we got in the car and called Daddy to tell him.

So, keep your paws crossed that this keeps working and I keep feeling good like this!!!

I'm gettin' old, Mommy......

I was born in January 1995. I was a terror as a puppy :). I loved to chew anything I could find, and liked to nip at Pop's nose, too. It was just me and Mommy for a while, and then Mommy met Daddy and got married. Then, I had new brothers and a sister, Eddie, Zach and Shannon. Mommy and Daddy got 3 more dogs then......all Weimaraners. I was kind of annoyed at first and didn't really want to be around them, but they became my best friends, espeically Hunter. I found my second wind being around them, even though I'm the oldest one out of us. This year, Mommy wanted to get my teeth cleaned because they're in really bad shape. I went to the doctor and he sent us to a cardiologist since I've always had a heart murmur. The cardio guy said I had Chronic Valvular Disorder, but I should be OK for my teeth work. Well, I started to not to feel so good about a month after that, and now the doctor says I'm getting into Congestive Heart Failure. I had to stay in the hospital twice and my Mommy and Daddy were very scared, but now I am home and take medicine. The best one is Pimobendan, and my vet says that it will really help me a lot. I feel really good since then, and have been running around with my brothers and sister again. I know that i have to take it easy, but boy, I don't want to slow down!! Mommy watches me like a hawk to make sure I'm OK, so I know that I will be. :)
