Arrival Story:
There is no great story....ok...it started back when I was about 7 years old...I wanted a dog so bad I dreamed about it every waking minute! As time passed my desire to have a dog just grew...while my mother's resistance to the idea exponentially grew! My mother was not going to let a dog in her house...so I thought if I got the tiniest dog in the world she won't even know he was there! Great idea huh!??! So I went to the encyclopedia and found that dog...the Chihuahua! I got a book on the breed...a 1959 copy of "The Chihuahua", by Russell Kaufman and read it until the binding fell apart. I tried again...but still no deal. So I put my book away and stood by until the time I could fulfill my mother's proclamation, "When you have your own house, you can have a dog for every room. " When that day came I filled every room with a Labrador Retriever. I had 7! It was simply fantastic! I showed them in obedience out of necessity. You can't have that many dogs running around the house without maintaining some sort of order. I showed one in confirmation and had a blast. I went all over the country with my dogs...and even to Canada and Bermuda! It was the time of my life... Divorce changed my circumstances...and age has slowed me a bit, my last lab passed about 5 years ago...but after going to school...and changing careers...I was back to my yearning for a dog! My thoughts returned to the Chihuahua...now was the time for a Chi!!!!!!! So that's why I went looking for Rudy. I knew from my lab experience...go to the best breeder you can find that has something you may be able to pry out of their clutches! hehehe And that's the Rudy story...

Is it a baby...or a Baby?

April 21st 2008 12:25 pm   [link to this entry]

You are going to get a good laugh today!

Mom and I were going with a friend to the florist....since Mom wasn't driving she let me sit on her lap. I was sooo excited...I looked all around trying to keep up with all that was going past...and it kind of made me sleepy. So I fell asleep. Mom had me in my Easter sweater she made....it's not really very masculine...but Mom says it was good for a baby...kind of light blue, purple and green...she likes it! So anyway...she was holding me and we came to a red stop light. Another car pulls up beside us and the lady driving rolls down the window and screams over to Mom..."Put that baby in a car seat you irresponsible idiot!" Mom was floored...but true to Mom's nature she holds me up and calls over..."Who do you think he looks like!?" I then yawned...a really big one....and Mom immitates it! Then Mom says, "I think me!" The light changed and the stunned lady pealed off. That's my Mom!!!!! Mom says people just can't mind their own business and will open their mouth before they open their eyes! This seems to be true....

Swimming....

April 21st 2008 12:20 pm   [link to this entry]

I just wanted everyone to know that I went swimming...at least that's what Mom called it! All I did was go and get my ball and bring it back...it just happened that there was water all around me. I don't think it all that big a deal...but Mom was standing on the beach clapping and screaming how good I was...and then she rushed me home and I got to have hot air blown on me! That was almost the best part...but I like to get my ball no matter where it ends up!

We also watched movies....I like the ones where things get blown up, Mom likes the ones where people just stand around and talk....boring! If there's not bombs...then a good sword fight will do! The clinking of swords makes my really do funny things with my head! hehehe At least Mom laughs when I tilt my head from side to side.

Mom also planted flowers. That was an ordeal. First we had to go to the nursery...where everyone there had to pet me! And there was one other dog that just wouldn't leave me alone! And quite rude I must say....and I would know since Mom says I'm the original "Rude Man". It was kind of fun to go into the store and not have anyone hassle me about being a dog...it's like they don't even notice that part...they just see cute! hehehe My feet never touched the ground so no one could think I was going to do my doggy duty and christen any of the plants! hehehe Planting them was fun...I was on the deck...while Mom put the flowers into the pots. Mom has to play crossing guard to all the loose animals in our neighborhood. She saw a cat get hit the first day she moved in and that was just too much for her (she has 2 cats too...I don't get to play with them much...she says I bother them...can you imagine, ME bother a cat!)...so now if any of the dogs or cats start to cross the road when Mom's watching, she goes and stands in the middle of the road until they get to the other side....She says "not on my watch!" Anyway...the flowers look really nice...but she didn't put any on the deck! She says she miss named me....I should be called Hoover...since I hoover everything up and into my mouth! hehehe...Mom....

Well back to a nap for me. I'm still little and need to get my handsome rest...

A bad...but good day

April 17th 2008 12:07 pm   [link to this entry]

Hi everyone! This is Rudy...I may be small, but I have big ideas! Mom and I were just working on one that was inspired by the last 24 hours.
Mom's on a Chihuahua list on Yahoo...and one of the members was upset because a dog they were going to adopt was caught in the fire in Ordway, CO! Cameron was at the Colorado Animal Rescue Effort facility just outside Ordway and Tiffany had no word about her tiny adoptee! She posted on the list and Mom went to work! She suggested calling the Red Cross and any other animal rescues in the area...as well, Mom found all the news articles about the fires that had email addresses of the reporters and emailed all of them begging for word about the rescue...only one responded. Although Sean had no direct information about the rescue, it was still good to hear from someone that had actually been to the site.
Mom was up half the night trying to find someone that had word about the tiny Chihuahua...and then finally Tiffany posted...
Mom was panicked by what she might read...but she had to know the fate of Cameron. As she read the post Mom started weeping...I was sure Cameron had died. I buried my head in Mom's legs so she couldn't see me cry too...
She picked me up and gave me a big hug...and said..."don't worry little guy...Cameron is OK...he's OK!" But others were not so fortunate. The personal animals and livestock of the rescue had perished...no one had come to help them!!!!!! They battled the fire alone...they tried to save their animals but were too few to save them all. Those that survived were the less timid and unusually brave. Brave little Cameron had clung to Dawn and would not leave her arms. His brother was not as lucky. His fear made him run and there was no way to help him.
Fire is a scary thing...people panic and trample each other to get threw an exit...animals are no different.
That's when Mom started to brainstorm about ways to help animals in a disaster. She is going to put a page on my website when it goes up called Rudy's Recipes for a Disaster that will have ways to help animals in different situations. Mom also wants to mobilize different groups that may have access to equipment and resources that could be useful in a disaster situation. If you would like to help Mom let her know...the more the merrier.
Thanks! Mom loves me so much...and she loves your pets too!!!!!!!
