Arrival Story:
Izzy was a puppy mill dog. I was in a mall in New Jersey and saw a sign G. Retriever male in back. The moment we locked eyes I said to my husband Thats my Izzy. He was named for Izzy Stradlin in Guns and Roses. He was almost 4 months old and he had no clue how to walk on a leash. He was a challenge because he was abused. Everything freaked this poor dog out. He began having seizures (from being abused) so I put him on medication to help him. There were times I wanted to give up but I knew he was a really good dog deep down inside. I had to give him the chance. We had almost 8 years together. Then he was diagnosed with bone cancer. Every day became Christmas after that. I couldn't believe I was going to lose my little boy. Izzy died of bone cancer the day after his 8th birthday. He only lived 3 weeks after his front leg was amputated. He was very courageous. The one blessing that came out of his last three weeks on earth was that he finally realized that not all people were bad. To this day I still miss him. I sheltered him from everything, but I couldn't shelter him from the cancer that killed him. I felt tremendous amount of guilt. Around Christmas time this year I was at a store and found a hedgehog ornament. His hedgehog was his favorite toy. It was his way of letting me know everything was fine on the bridge.

Dear Izzy,

I have resisted giving you a page for some time now. But now I feel this is a great way to honor your memory. There is not a day that goes by where I don't miss you. You were my first dog and you were very special.

I sheltered you from everything that frightened you. I just couldn't shelter you from cancer.

I love you.

Mom
