Birthday: August 6th 2007 Likes: Hunting birds! Gamboling and doing his happy dance in the garden, digging in the dirt, smelling the flowers, playing ball or tug-o-war with Pop, Pet-Peeves: Not enough time to bond with his peeps. Humans not responding fast enough when he wants to go out (you should hear his growlies!) Favorite Toy: His tug-o-war rope, fake pheasant, soccer ball, tennis ball and humongous beef bone Favorite Food: Beef! Chicken, Pork, ham bones, Fuji apples and carrots, treats Favorite Walk: Anywhere with Poppa but especially to the park Best Tricks: Pointing, of course; patiently waiting for the "ok" to get his treat, rearranging his blankie and barn (takes after Momma and Teh Ateh), rolling over to get a treat Arrival Story: We've shared most of our married/family life with some beloved canine characters, until we moved to California where our lifestyle precluded being a dog's humans. In late '07, though, it was clear that we needed the therapeutic influence of a dog who could also be an occasional hunting buddy. We saw an ad in the paper for Pointer pups, called to arrange a meeting, and realized that the dam was an energetic little Pointer we had met previously at a pheasant hunt. Rafa and his siblings were all cute, but he had a big spot where his tail meets his butt, similar to our dear departed Dagul. What's more, after all the other pups had lost interest and had run off, he came back and checked us out some more. That clinched it. It's been a love fest ever since. Bio: Rafa is a natural hunter, a real bird dog. Without any professional training, only our own amateur efforts, he is doing what his forebears have done for hundreds of years. In his first hunting season he has already helped Pop bag four pheasants! The last one he found, pointed and flushed all by himself. Not bad for a 14-month old! Pop took me for a walk at the park yesterday, one of our first on a weekend. Lots of dogs with their humans walking, too. Almost everyone stopped and told Poppa what a "nice" or "gorgeous" dog I am. Mom's bursting with pride over her handsome pup!
