His treat ball.

Favorite Food:

Favorite Walk:
Any woodland. (Several nearby).

Best Tricks:
finding & retrieving my keys; give a kiss/paw on command; creep along the ground on his belly;roll over/speak on command, search for hidden food treats, opening a plastic bottle to get a drink from it!!

Arrival Story:
I had one Vizsla & wanted another. A friend who breeds them said one she'd bred needed a new home at three years old, having already had two homes. I said I wanted him before I'd seen him. When we collected him, it was apparant he'd been neglected & his spirit was crushed. Later, it became apparant he'd been hit or kicked. His tail had been docked a second time (badly) for no obvious reason, but something was suspicious about it, because the people who'd had him said it had never grown!! (Obviously untrue!) He was shy of strangers & fearful of men & looked like a toast-rack.

Dillon has been with me for almost 9 years now & he is the most adorable, gorgeous dog, with bags of personality. He has lost his fear now & really come out of his shell. He is fit & healthy apart from spinal arthritis, due to age. He is currently an "only" dog, as my other one passed away. Dillon loves to carry things (especially my keys; which he will also find for me) & is very playful & a bit of a clown at times. He can really make me laugh & is wonderful "medicine" if I am feeling "down". I was going to put this in the "tricks" section, but it's not a trick really; it's a personality quirk. Dillon is living proof that dogs can feel gratitude!! Let me explain.... If he has gone outside to do his "duty" & if he has to wait a few minutes before being let in again; when he is let in, he will come through the door; pause; kiss my hand, & then carry on, into the house! He has NOT been trained to do this!! Another example; if I am busy & haven't realised it's his dinner time, he will often come to attract my attention (by a tip-of-the-tongue kiss {on my elbow, if I'm on the PC} & after he has had his dinner, he will come & kiss my hand to say "thank you". He did it yesterday (Fri' 29 Oct. 04) when we were at a friend's house longer than expected. He often stays at that house (& their dog stays here) & so he nudged my friend, to ask for food & after both dogs were fed, Dillon kissed my friend's hand! He had eaten in the kitchen & approached my friend in the hallway, so it was a deliberate act, expressing his thanks! He has never done this to anyone else, before & I didn't need to tell my friend what he was doing...It was obvious! I didn't see him do it, but my friend's reaction was one of surprise & obvious pleasure. Dillon is the only dog I (or my friends) have encountered, who displays obvious gratitude like this!! It's so endearing! To me; it's proof that dogs' intelligence & emotions / capacity for understanding are (in general) greatly underestimated!! Dillon also has an unusual habit of crouching, rather than sitting, at times; as if the floor is too cold!! If I can find the one photo of him doing this, I'll include it on his page; if not, you'll just have to believe me. When he was younger, he also used to climb trees, literally! One friend witnessed it (I never did manage to photograph this) when he was about 6-8 feet up a tree! However, to come down, he would just let go & I felt this was dangerous, so I started to keep his nails shorter, so he couldn't climb any more. If anyone else has a dog with similar quirks, do send me a message ... I'd love to know if this is more common than usually thought.... Darling Dillon went to the bridge on 5 June 2007.

Hi folks,
The pup is growing fast!!He's a lovely little chap, but can be a bit of a "pain" to me sometimes. Despite that, I do like him, really, & he is learning,...... for instance, that I can take a chew or toy from him any time I like; because I'm the top dog!! (One of the compensations of age, for me!). It's great fun, actually! When I take his chew, mum or aunty, or uncle will give him another one & when they aren't looking, I take that too!!......so they give him another, & so it goes on......until they realise I've had a few, & the supply stops then.
Humans can be such party-poopers!

A little red whine?

Hi folks,
Another update for my diary. No, the title isn't misspelt.......the newcomer IS
little, red, & whines.....& barks,......you get the picture!
Fortunately for me, he doesn't live with us!! He belongs to my aunty & uncle & he's an 11 week old vizsla, called Merlot!! (Hence the title!)
He loves to be with me & I can't say the same about him! I'm not really "into" puppies. I tolerate him & hope that he'll get the message & go away!
Trouble is; every time I go to visit aunty & uncle, he's still there!! They seem to love him & I'm beginning to think he's here to stay. I won't ever have my "second home" to myself again!
Mum likes him too..... sadly,.... as I get jealous. I think she tries not to let me know when she's been with him, but I always know!
I just hope mum won't get one like him to live with us!! Pups are ok (sort of) in small doses only.
If anyone out there thinks I'm a horrible old grump of a dog;...... please remember, I'm thirteen in the summer! I like my peace & quiet. I'm also arthritic, which doesn't help.
The good news is that I know mum loves me & I think I can rely on her to let me keep her & my home, to myself!!

End of one year....start of another...

Hi All,
Dillon here. I've just had a fantastic Xmas, with lots of presents (from the best of friends....2 legged & 4 legged) & lots & lots of treats!
I really know what presents are & I always have to investigate mum's presents & everyone else's (if they'll let me) just in case it might be for me!!
I even investigate mum's shopping bags, throughout the year, in case there's
a present for me!!!
My friends from Sweden are back in the uk to stay. I hadn't seen them for four years, so it was all very exciting!!
My friends are Barty & Lottie (English Pointers) who, at 6 years old, are much younger than me. It never showed before, but it does now!! Still, I keep them in line & they respect me, after all; they were only pups when I first knew them. Just as it should be! Of course (for those of you who don't know me....& that's most of you!) I am never nasty; just an old boy who gives them a gentle reminder to behave!!
Happy new year to you all, from me & my mum!!
