BOTH his Mommies..."Angie" and Me!
he must be told a story every night on the way to bed...SERIOUSLY!
to the park across the street or Petco
"Sit Pretty".... and talks!
When "Max" 's mommy, "Angie", delivered her second litter in 07, Max was barely a year old. "Angie" had troubles and ended up staying at the vet hospital in urgent care for 5 days. The litter was only a day old when she became ill (ruptured uterus) and I was frantic about how to care for the young pups. I quickly learned I had no need to worry. "Max", a little apprehensive at first, took it upon himself to take care of the litter of four! He would snuggle with them to keep them warm and clean them, licking their little bellies as a mother dog would by instinct. He would watch carefully as I bottle-fed the babies (that's the ONLY thing "Max" couldn't do...LOL!) and cleaned up any spilt milk or tell-tale signs of the puppies existance in our home.
When "Angie" came home she was not very happy at first that "Max" had taken over her job. But she immediately saw that he was caring for them in her absence and welcomed him into her whelping box to sleep with the pups along side of her, and to help nurture them. Yes, "Max", you are ONE awesome dog!

"Max" was already named before he was created! I had a teacher in the 7th grade named "Mr. Maxwell" who was about 5'5", glasses, and a bushy moustache. I SWORE that if I ever had a wirehaired dachshund (I had loved the breed since I was 7 and saw a photo of one in a book) that it would be a black/tan male named "Max". Well, when my little female wire became pregnant, I just KNEW there would be a "Max" in that litter! Lo and behold, 63 days later, baby "Max" was brought into this world. Although he isn't black and tan, he is a wild boar, which is very similar, and frankly, I like his coat color better : ) He is now 2 years old, and is a spoiled little baby! He shares his home with my husband and myself, his mommy, "Angie", four years old, and "Scooter", a standard wirehaired dachshund we had adopted from our local dachshund rescue.
