Arrival Story:
A few months prior to Tess's adoption of me, I went to visit my parents in Texas. They had recently added a member to their family, a rescued senior boxer named Reno. I fell in love with Reno's affection, playfulness and obsession with being pet and decided on that trip that a boxer was the only dog for me. I told my mom that I was going to start looking for a fawn female, just like Reno, but I had no idea Tess would find me so fast! A few months passed and my mother called one morning and said, "You're going to love me so much when I tell you what I found for you....a fawn, female boxer puppy!" She went on to explain that she'd taken the dogs out to play on the land and the neighbor came over, having noticed Reno. He asked if they were interested in another boxer puppy. His sister was apparently a "breeder" and had one puppy left from their litter that they were giving away because they hadn't found her a home. My mom said jokingly, "I've got two too many dogs, but my daughter is looking for a boxer puppy and would be delighted to take her." A week later, he delivered Tess to my parents and 2 weeks later, she was on a plane to her forever home in California! It was love at first sight.

Bio:
Tess proudly wears her gingham pink and white collar to remind folks that, although she can be a monster at times, she is still a sweet little girl. :)

The Life and Times of The Tess

My New Brother!

Howlo All,

Sorry it's been so long since I've written, but I've been busy, busy playing, barking, digging, and boxing, so I just haven't had the time.

I had to let you all know about my new brother, Conner. He's a little crazy. I wasn't sure about him at first, so I was certain to let him know right away that I am the boss of this house. (Shush - Don't tell my mom I said that. She seems to think that she's the boss. It will be our secret.) He seemed to be Ok with me being boss, which is very good (for him) because I wouldn't want to have to call down the thunder to prove it!

I've been pretty accommodating to my new brother. I let him play with my toys and sleep on my pillow. Sometimes he jumps out of line, though, and I have to put him back in his place. It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it.

He's REALLY skinny, but you wouldn't know it by the way this kid eats! MAN, can he EAT! I don't know where he puts it! I guess I'd better be nice to him so he'll tell me his secret to keeping up my girlish figure. Since I'm turning two years old soon, it's not as easy to keep off the pounds as it used to be. Man do I miss the good ole days!

I guess the kid is kind of OK. He sure likes to box and he's not bad, actually. He's no Tess Cooper, that's for sure. He'll be a contender once I teach him a thing or two. I've got him on a strict training schedule. Boxing, boxing, boxing, morning noon and night. Little bugger is a bit lazy, though. He sleeps as much as he trains. It's going to take some time to whip this guy into shape.

He is kind of cute. Maybe, I'll take him under my wing - a protege, apprentice, if you will. He sure could learn a thing or two from me. AND, if he's going to stick around, I guess I can't have him tarnishing the good Cooper name with his sloppy skills.

I think we'll keep him. Alright, alright - I've thought it over and made my decision. Yes. We'll keep him. That's final.

Now, I'm going to take a nap on the floor since my pillow is occupied by you-know-who. I let him have it. Who needs that thing. It doesn't fit in with my image anyway.

Later Pals,
Tess

And then.....I fell asleep!

Hi fellow Dogsters!

I had a fantabulous day today! My mommy worked at home, so I got to play all day long out of my crate. She made me some yummy banana, applesauce, yogurt and cream cheese treat for my Kong. But, she only gave it to me when she had to leave me for a while! You'll never believe what she did after she gave me my Kong. She just walked out the door! I tried to remind her that I was out of my crate, but she just kept going. I thought to myself.....Woo Hoo!

She used to leave me out sometimes. I'm not sure why she doesn't do it more often. Last time, I threw my ball behind the couch and mom wasn't there to get it for me. So, I just decided that I'm a big girl and I could get it myself. So, I just started digging and digging and digging on the couch. I never did find my ball. Mommy was REALLY mad when she got home. She must have liked the ball as much as I do! For some reason, the next day, she gave our couch away and got a new one. Still scratching my head on that one.

The time before that, I wanted to call her to tell her to come home, so I got the phone book and started thumbing...errr...pawing through. My sitter Laura came to play with me that day. When she got there, she must have wanted to call mommy too because she picked up every little shred of the phone book looking her number. It took her a LONG time to find it.

Then there was the time before that, I was just hanging out in the living room and do you know what I found??? A TREE! What the heck is a tree doing in the living room?! I dug that tree right out of its pot and gave it a thrashing it won't ever forget! Teach him to set up roots in my house! It was SO fun! Mom wasn't happy when she got home that time either. I guess the dirt that tree spread all over the living room made her mad too. Stupid tree. She was really glad I taught it a lesson.

OH - anyway, TODAY when Mom left me all alone...I sat around pondering what I was to do first. Play with my ball? Lick the frozen yummies out of my Kong? Chew on my bone? Bark at the neighbors? Rip up the curtains? Chew on the futon cover? So many things to do!! I had to prioritize. I thought and thought and thought. I guess I must have been tired from all the pondering because the next thing I knew, Mommy was home and I was sleeping on the couch!

She was SO happy. You wouldn't believe the greeting I got. It was the human equivalent of the nubby wagging boxer dance I do when she gets home! I'm not kidding! I couldn't figure out why she was so happy at first, but then it hit me. She is happy that I like the new couch!

Keep those tails (and nubbies) waggin' till next time!
