Shanni -- her nemesis (the alpha dog until Fleury came along).
She wasn't much into toys when we adopted her.
Around the block was enough for her - esp. when it was cold. Once she knew she was on the return leg, she walked twice as fast!
Being a great mom.
My workplace had a fair where organizations that we could contribute to had tables. The Animal Care Center of Seal Beach had a table and brought 2 dogs, and one was Fleury. She'd only been turned in a day earlier by someone who found her wandering the streets. She was skeletal, more than half white-haired and missing most of her teeth. With 2 doxies already, we didn't need another one (as we live in a condo), but my heart went out to her. She wasn't the most adoptable dog -- esp. as she had a bad heart and mammary tumors. But I took her home anyway. Because they weren't able to spay her (her medical conditions prevented any major surgery), they missed that she was pregnant! We were taken by surprise and she had 3 puppies a few months after we adopted her. Two survived and were adopted by a loving family. Sadly, Fleury's heart gave out on her about a month after the puppies were adopted. We were happy we could make her last months comfortable, but we still miss her. As the vet said, she had "a real spark." God speed, Fleury!
She was named after Theo Fleury (hockey player) who was small, old, feisty and missing a lot of teeth, too.
