   Leave a bone for Damon

D, Day-Day, Big Black Dog,

Doggie Dynamics:

Sun Sign:
Quick Bio:

April 22nd 2002

Meeting people, being with people, chewing on bones, bringing us toys, car rides, being with us, and oh yeah, being with us!

Thunder-boomers, fireworks, loud motorcycles

Favorite Toy:
Stuffies in general, loofa dog, Gumabones, dumbell kong, and any toy he can bring to you.

Favorite Food:
Loves popcorn, Beggin' strips, peanut butter, and pretty much any food---though he's very limited with goodies with his diabetes

Favorite Walk:
Walk? Any walk! All walks! Just sauntering around the yard areas, pretty much anywhere he can sniff around.

Best Tricks:
Release--you can even be in the middle of a big game of tug-o-war with him, and if you say "release," he'll give you the toy immediately. He also knows "back-up" and does a really cute hop backwards.

Arrival Story:
After my angel brother Arthur passed away, Mom and Dad had been trying to decide what their next pup was going to be. They knew they'd either get a lab or a bulldog, but really wanted to rescue a pup if they could. Mom had been checking out the lab rescue sites and had found a site that had some very sweet pups available for adoption. Mom contacted the lady who runs the rescue about one of the older pups, but found out he'd been adopted. She told Mom that she had another lab coming into rescue within the week that she thought would be perfect for them. Mom checked the website everyday and finally saw that the new pup--me!--, had been added to the website. As soon as Mom saw my smiling face, she knew she wanted to meet me. Mom and Dad knew that they'd most likely be coming home with me, so had gone out and gotten some new toys, bowl, and bed to be prepared. When they got to the lady's house, they lightly knocked on the storm door, and I came flying to the door, smiling, and bringing them a stuffed bone. After showering them with kisses, lots of flopping over on my back for belly rubs, and getting to show off my knowledge of basic commands, they left with one great big, black, happy lab in the backseat, who by the way, leapt into their backseat like he knew that's exactly what he wanted to do! And we never looked back!

Damon came from a family that had a mom, dad, and 3 kids under age 6. The mom and dad got divorced. The mom went to live somewhere with the kids, while the dad took Damon to live with him. The dad ended up going out of town for work all the time and eventually contacted the lab rescue and surrendered him. Lucky us!!! He now has his furever home with his very own family including a cat who has learned that Damon is just a big ol' teddy bear! Since adopting Damon, we've learned he has a condition that causes an enlarged spleen, he has diabetes requiring daily insulin injections, and he is now losing his sight from cataracts. Seeing this wonderful pup's big smiling face, you would never know it because he just simply loves life. Damon has brought joy to our lives and brings happiness and love to everyone he meets. We just couldn't be happier to have him in our family.

Hi guys! Mom created a dogster page for my brother Sherman that they rescued in February. Took her long enough right? I've told him all about my great dogster friends, and I know he's looking forward to playing with all of you!

Sherman has really been great for Mom and Dad, and he has helped them to not be so sad about losing me. I knew Sherman would be a good fit for them, and I'm so happy they found him! They rescued him, and he rescued them too!

I'm at the Bridge with Arthur

It was unexpected and a shock, but I went to the Bridge on Tuesday 1/24. I started out with what we thought was a pinched nerve in my neck causing pain in my neck and shoulder. I didn't want to walk. After going to the vets and getting meds for the pain, the vet thought that a couple days rest would do it and that I would get better. Mom and Dad actually went on vacation, thinking I would fine, but within 2 days, I was back at the vet in pain, not wanting to walk. By the next day I was in pain that they couldn't get under control, and I wouldn't eat. We couldn't do steroids because of my diabetes. By Tuesday, I was in so much pain and couldn't walk. With Grandpa, the vet, and Mom and Dad they had to make the decision to let me go to the Bridge because they did not want me to suffer. It was the hardest thing Mom and Dad ever had to decide. Grandpa was with me the whole time. Mom and Dad got home last night on Sunday and are now coming to terms with the fact that I'm really gone.

I know they will always have me in their hearts, and I will always be in theirs. Luckily I have Arthur and my other angel pals to take care of me.

Happy Mother's Day

Just wanted to take a minute and send some giant labbie-size hugs out to all the moms out there. I am so thankful that there are so many wonderful mommies out there who give their furbabies so much love. You are very much appreciated and loved!
