Arrival Story: We were trolling the Buffalo area SPCA's pretty regularly in the summer of 2007 and stumbled upon Ernie (formerly known as John). He was at the SPCA kennels in Angola, NY sharing a cage with his brother Ringo. (They were both transferred to NY from Virginia, somewhere around Dillwyn. I'm thinking he was surrendered down there with the remainder of his littermates and they just couldn't get anyone to adopt them. So instead of euthanizing perfectly healthy puppies they shipped them up north!) At first we didn't pay any attention to the two pups sharing a kennel...because everyone else was! But I (his dog mom) kept going back during the day by myself and walking dogs that caught my eye. I finally noticed Ernie in his kennel alone--Ernie's brother was adopted but he wasn't. He looked so lonely because someone took his brother away from him, but he was very well behaved and never barked or whined once! I took him out on a walk, watched him roll around in the grass, chew on sticks and show me his sweet puppy belly--the rest is history!

Bio: Ernie is our special muttley! The card on his SPCA kennel told us that he was a "Beagle/hound mix"...which is redundant. I've gone through a few breeds trying to figure out what exactly he might be. Our vet helped us come to the conclusion that he is hound (I say foxhound, or maybe Harrier?) mixed with Australian Shepherd because he doesn't bay like a Beagle would (he only barks to go outside to potty) and he has the markings and strong fur characteristics of an Aussie. His coat is thick, without being fluffy and smooth but not short. He sheds like a maniac!

Forums Motto: I'm Handsome.
