Whoosh! What a busy six weeks it has been! It has been that long since my forever family found me and took me home. Time seems to have flown by, and yet I feel like I've been here with Albie and my mommas forever. The cats could make me feel a little more welcomed, but Albie says that will come in time... a long long time! The mommas said it would help if I didnt talk back to them when they give me a good telling off, but they shouldn't be so mean, I am only trying to play. Oh well. In the meantime, I have Albie who is just my size to play with, and he likes all my favorite games, chase, wrestle, tug. And better yet, I can beat him at all three games! He may outweigh me and he may be stronger, but I am faster and I'm a very clever girl (Momma says so). I have me ways to pin him or get back my favorite toy.
So since I've moved here my Mommas have put me into some serious boot camp obedience training. They say they love me and my puppy-like ways, but I'm getting to be to old to behave like a wild-child 24/7. They are also trying to convince me that Albie is ahead of me in the pack order. That doesn't seem fair cause I can best him in a wrestling match, but they keep insisting since he has been here longer, he has more status. Well, Ican't help it if my mommas were so late in coming to get me. Maybe if they didn't wait until I was 8 months old to find me and take me home, then I would be top dog. Momma D says that wouldn't matter, cause SHE'D still be top dog in any case. So I'm learning to listen to Momma D. She is teaching me housemanners, which basically from what I can tell is I can't put ANYTHING in my mouth until she gives it to me AND tells me its ok - I think that's plain tricky! And also that there is a time and place for barking, which again seems to be when she tells me its ok. Momma D is kinda bossy! She is also teaching me voice commands with hand signals. So far I know Sit, Down, Off, Leave it, Take it, Drop it, and Come. Albie, the showoff, knows about 50 vocal commands, and when I'm working so hard to remember what each one of mine means to get a treat, he's in the background doing shakes and roll-overs and what-nots trying to get that treat before I do. But Momma says I'm off to a good start and in a fews days she is taking me to my first puppy school class - I'm so excited! I'm going to have the same trainer Albie had, and he tells me she is super nice and she hands out treats just on the merits of cuteness instead of making you always work for it like the mommas do. And I am 100% cuteness!
In fact the Mommas said I'm doing so good that I earned a new awesome privilage this week! I now get to sleep in the big bed with the mommas and Albie and the cats at night instead of sleeping alone in my crate. Momma D says its because I proved I could sleep through the night without whining and waking the Momma's up, that I proved I could "hold it" all night long, and that I learned that just because the mommas are laying down and their faces are at my level, it doesn't mean I can bite and pull at their ears and noses like I can with Albie. The mommas are SOOO bossy. But I like sleeping in the big bed with everyone else, so if they don't want me to wrestle in bed (not even with Albie!), I guess that's ok.
Speaking of Albie, I need to go and get him now. Momma D is trying to play fetch with me, and although Albie has no desire to play fetch, he does like to steal the ball and play keep-it-away-from-Dora-so-she-can't-give-it-back-to-Momma. Which makes fetch much harder.
