Well, I've got to say that I am now going to be a bigger homebody dog. My big adventure started last night at around 8pm, when my people went out for ice cream. I was minding my business when one of my doggie buddies was walking their person behind my apartment. I just got so excited that I jumped out of the back window, tearing a hole in the screen. I couldn't believe I was on my own in the huge outside!!! It was fun for the first few minutes, but the I ran into the woods. I dont like woods. I heard people I dont know calling my name and one girl gave me a few treats. She lives in the apartment upstairs and is always sweet to me. I thought she was trying to play though, because she tried to catch me, so I ran again. It was like a big game. I ran back into the woods and I think i got lost in there. I really dont like the woods. It was getting dark and even though I didn't want to admit it, I was getting scared. I thought i heard my people calling my name, but i wasn't sure and i didn't want to get near the moving cars again. Maybe being outside without my people wasn't so fun.
I kept running and came to a road. I've never liked moving cars much, so I stayed on the side. I got spooked though and darted across the road a couple of times. The cars made huge honking noises at me and boy...I was SCARED. I just wanted to go home. It was getting colder and dark and nothing seemed friendly to me. I kept walking and it was cold and I was hungry and thirsty. Somewhere in my travels, I lost my collar.
Hours must have passed and it started raining. I kept thinking about my Russ and my Chrissy and I knew that they were looking for me. I just wanted to be home with them and my beanbag and my toys...I didn't sleep...I just kept wandering and walking...cold, tired, wet and hungry... Finally, i came across a place with stones in the ground and this building. I huddled up next to the building as it started getting lighter outside. I saw a person watching me but I just stayed where I was. Then a lady came and put me into a van. She seemed nice because she gave me treats, but i was still too scared to care. I wanted my people.
We stopped and she opened the door of the van. There was my Russ!!!!!!!!!! I was so sore from my night of walking the town. My pads hurt and my muscles were sore....but it was my RUSS!!!! I was home again!!!! He brought me into the apartment and was SOO happy to see me. Then he left for a few minutes and when he came back, he had my Chrissy with him. She cried a bit and hugged me and then checked me over. I was so tired that I could only wag my tail a bit. I fell asleep for awhile, then I got up and ate a whole bowl of food.
Being out in the world alone is scary for a dog, especially overnight for more than 12 hours. My Chrissy and my Russ kept petting me and telling me they loved me and that I was a stinky dog... I was glad to be home.
