Leave a bone for Pippen

Nicknames: Pip, pippers, pipsqueak, big puppy

Quick Bio:
Likes: When I was on this plane I enjoyed eating anything and everything that was on the floor. Sometimes on counters too. I also enjoyed napping in the sun and playing tug o' war with all my toys.

Pet-Peeves: As I got older I didn't really have that many pet peeves at all.

Favorite Toy: Anything that was squishy and squeaked

Favorite Food: Everything. Especially pig ears!

Favorite Walk: I enjoyed walking around the block where I could meet lots of people who would pet me.

Best Tricks: I could shake, sit, lay down, play dead, and flip a biscut off my nose and catch it.

Arrival Story: I remember the first day I saw Pippen like it was yesterday. We were driving off to some strange house. My parents said, "To pick up some furniture from a fellow worker of your father's". Prepared for another boring errand run I settled into the van seat at the tender age of 7. At that point in my life I had pretty much given up on the idea of getting a dog. My parents gave the old age answer of "no" and it just became a thing to wistful daydream about.
We arrived at the house where two shetland sheepdogs greeted us. 'Oh goody! Doggies for me to play with while my parents get this thing over with.' My brother Ryan was only 5 at the time, and Myles the tender age of 1 1/2. We were about to pet and play with the dogs when my parents dissapeared into the kitchen calling for us to follow.
We walked into a kitchen where there was this puppy in a pen! My parents behind us watching our faces, as we tried to figure out why they called us into the kitchen. "Do you guys' know who's puppy this is?" "No" came the response from my brother and mine's small mouths. "He's ours!" We blinked and looked at our parents like they were crazy. And then the reality of it all hit us and they let him out as he sniffed about eagerly and got used to us. The ride home was just a bundle of energy as my mom sat in the back with us, holding Pippen as he tried to get used to this new experiance that'd he'd have to live with.
Pippen came from a breeder, and the only reason we were allowed to take him was the fact that he was the largest of the litter and some markings weren't show quality. You can see from the pictures that he was a giant compared to any normal sheltie. My dad always said they gave us a collie instead of a sheltie.

Bio: Pippen was a lovable dog. He was smart, sweet, and ever patient. He didn't get into too much trouble except for stumbling down the stairs when he was young and investigating a skunk that turned out to be a not so smart idea of his. There was also the incident of a torn apart rabbit in the backyard that perplexed everyone since he was on a teather.
He was with us for 12 years. Certainly shorter than any of us had wished it would be. He always had ailments ever since he was 6 years of age. From joint problems that shelties are prone to, to a weight problem, to a thyroid problem, to tumors, and finally kidney failure. The last week he was with us was hard. To watch him slowly stop showing interest in food, to drink water greedily. And that last day that he was in our house to lay down, only to get away from the brown liquid residue he'd leave behind.
The saturday after that was when we put him down, since we learned it was kidney failure and there was nothing we could do. Seeing him right before we put him down was hard because he was so happy to see us and walked over to the door of the room, looked over his shoulder at us almost as if to say "Okay, we can go home now like the other times right?" If it weren't for his ambling walk and just the undeniably fact that he was dying before my eyes I would've denied the fact that it was his time to go. I grew up with Pippen, and he was more of a fellow brother than a pet.
Rest in peace: 5/1/92-7/26/03
