Arrival Story:
Keoki (originally named Butters) was a shelter dog. One day my family and I decided to go down to the local shelter to just "look around" at the different dogs to see if we could find one we wanted to adopt. We were kind of looking for a puppy and knew we definitly wanted a pit mix. The shelter we went to was an "open door" shelter meaning that it basically had to take in any animals that were brought to it. When we walked into the kennel area my eyes almost immediately went to the skinniest and saddest looking dog I had ever seen. He had multiple fly bites, dandruff, and was about 20 pounds underweight. He didn't even come to the front of the kennel at first when we went over to it. It was sad. Other people were viewing the dogs at the same time as us and literally three people walked by and commented on why they didn't want him. Then it kind of hit me. No else one was going to adopt this dog. After a few minutes he walked over to to us and started to act a little bit more "normal." He wagged his tail and that was that. Of course I was the only one in my family who REALLY wanted to adopt him and I plead his case to my parents and sister. My sister literally said, "I don't want that one. He looks like he's dying." Anyway being the older child I got to make the final decision. ANDDD I got my dog. He had been tied up outside and had basically been left to starve by his previous owners. He was outside a great deal and it was guessed that he never actually lived in a house. He was terrified of everything and severely neglected. He couldn't even be walked because he would almost hurt himself trying to get away from cars and loud noises. The shelter had got him from the place he had been removed from about a week before we adopted him. He was wasn't even six months old yet. Long story short after a few hectic months of training and time he's finally pretty much adjusted to his new normal life of being a healthy and happy pet.

Bio:
**The picture of him with the phone book is from when we first adopted him on Feb 11th 08. He's WAY bigger now.
