 Quick Bio:
 Birthday: January 1st 2001
Likes: being around her mommies (my sister & me), smelling the breeze, her puppy/kitten, her plushie toys, chewing on things, trash hunting, lying around on the furniture, floor, beds

Pet-Peeves: being bossed around by the cats, having her nails cut (grrrr), Mu Mu the cat -- see being bossed around by...

Favorite Toy: her squeaky hedgehog and her new squeaky fleece bunny

Favorite Food: peanut butter

Favorite Walk: wherever we're going

Best Tricks: hound versions of standard "sit" and "down," gently taking a cheerio from my lips without touching them with her teeth!

Arrival Story: On NewYear's Eve, 2003, the temperature stood at 24 degrees F, it was windy and snowy and we were on our way to a friend's house around 2 am. We had just cleaned out our old house and were waiting for our new house to be ready to move into -- we had been staying with our friend since Thanksgiving and were no nearer to getting into our home than we had been for the last two months. Our friend had 3 dogs and 2 cats; we, my sister and I, had four cats. We occupied one room with attached bath in our friend's house and kept our cats with us to keep them away from her dogs.
We had just finished a New Year's Eve ceremony with a circle of friends where we passed around bottles of non-alcoholic sparkly and asked God & Mother Nature to send us new opportunities in this time of change and upheaval (moving).
We stopped at a gas station to top off our SUV. Hanging around the sign at the entrance to the station was an ugly looking dog that I barely noticed. While my sister pumped gas and our friend sat in the backseat and knitted, I got out to stretch my legs. The dog crawled up to me on her belly, rolled over on her back and gave the snarly grin that hounds and some other dogs do. I looked more closely at her and she was pitiful -- a skeletally thin dog with a thin coating of brindle hair and not much else. I went inside the convenience store to ask about her and the woman on duty said she had been hanging around for several days; she was not allowed to let the dog inside but had been feeding her Vienna Sausages when she could. She begged us to take the dog home and said she thought the dog had either been thrown out or had run away from a gang of dog thieves...
The more I looked at the dog, the more I wanted to do something, but our friend seemed resistant about taking in another dog. "She'll be alright, we can't save everyone," she said. Then my sister saw the dog and made the decision I wanted to make but didn't have the guts to: "We're not leaving her," she said. "We'll take her with us when we move to our new house." When our friend heard that we weren't going to stick her with a strange dog, she was suddenly helpful, offering to help us learn how to care for a dog.
My sister Nicky had to pick the dog up and put her in the back of the car because she was too weak to get in on her own...and suddenly we had four cats -- and a dog! We thought about calling her Sweetie, but since we found her on New Year's "Eve," we thought that Eve would be a good name for her -- and it is!

Bio: Eve's birthday was chosen by us because of the day we found her. She is probably about 7 or 8 years old now; the vets guesstimated her age at 2-4 years when we found her four New Year's Eves ago.
She has filled out beautifully. Her coat is a rich mahogany brindle with a white patch on her chest and a fewwhite hairs on the tips of her tail. Her muzzle and paws have grey ticking on them, making us think she might have some blue-tick in her background. She has quite a bit of greying now around her eyes and more on her muzzle, which makes us think that she's heading into middle age now, but she acts like a puppy with her toys or with her puppy/kitten.
She has learned so many things :
1. that she can NOT tree the cats or hold them at bay -- they are NOT prey!
2. that no one is going to take her food away from her.
3. that we are her Pack Leaders (though Mu Mu the cat would dispute that little item)
4. that the cats are her "pack" and that some of them even like to lie down near her.
5. that peanut butter is good!
6. that FOO-WOOOOOO-WOOOOO(d) means food -- and she knows when to call for it too!
7. that she has to do a trick before she gets a treat!
8. that cars are fun to ride in
9. that Irish music is good to fall asleep to
10. that thunderstorms are easier to deal with when one of the mommies is home
11. that growling at the cats is not allowed nor is retaliating at them
12. that her mommies love her very much and want her to live a long, happy and balanced life!

So, today's my birthday, whatever that means! It's not actually the day I was born but it is the day my Moms found me and took me home to live with them.
I'm getting gray around the face and my joints ache, particularly in the cold and I'm slowing down. So are my Moms. But they got me a toy a few months ago -- his name is Pup Pup and he's a Corgi mix. He's a young guy, just 6 years old, and we get along just fine. He knows I'm the venerable lady of the house and gives me respect most of the time -- and I just "look" at him when he forgets.
My Moms fostered him for the Asheville Humane Society while he had his treatment for heartworm. Pup Pup decided he'd found his home and so did my Moms. He fits in like he's always belonged here. He even gets along with most of our cats.
I have a new dog-bed that's raised up off the floor so I don't have to be cold when I sleep. I prefer the chaise in the living room or the rug in Mommy Jackie's bedroom which I share sometimes with Pup Pup. So guess who sleeps on my bed? Either Pup Pup or Puddin', our newest cat, who also came from the AHS.
She's orange and white and is sorta the same color as Pup Pup, so I think that they think they're related.
I go out on a leash with Mommy Jackie a couple or three or more times a day, sometimes just me and Mommy and sometimes with Pup Pup. But mostly, I like to hang around and be near my people and sleep and take things out of the trash and try to sneak them by my Mommys.
I'll try to write more this year.

My mom calls herself a writer but she's slow to write about me. So here goes. My year was pretty good. I'm gettin' along better with my cat pack, except for the big long-haired bully Mu Mu who thinks he's my mom's favorite and tries to lead the pack -- ok, so he DOES lead the pack, but only cause my mom lets him. My puppycat Yin Yang is still my bestest buddy and loves to play chase with me and lie down on mom's bed with me and snooze!
My friend Beth brought me a plush bone that I like to carry around sometimes. Along with my fleecy bunny and my stuffed reindeer and christmas dog and my neopet paint brush plushie and my negg and my other chewy toys, i have a lot of fun with it. Course I also like finding my own things to chew on -- like the dog and cat food cans and anything I can pull out of the trash. JackieMom and NickyMom (I think they're litter mates or siblings or somethin') call me a "trash hound" sometimes and try to tell me I don't need to find stuff in the trash -- but sometimes I just gotta do it!
They both like this Cesar Millan fellow and I think he's alright, too, at least I like to sleep while he's on the moving picture thingie they watch. He's real comforting sounding.
JackieMom has been going on and on about retiring and so now maybe she'll have more time to spend with me and write about me. WOOO-HOOOO!
A shout out to Alfie and Willie and all my doggie friends and people friends on dogster! AOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUU!

Life is mostly peaceful so there aren't a lot of big things going on. My moms' friends buy me toys and today I got a red long dog to carry around like the dog on tv does.
It's been raining and I don't like all the booms and bright lights. I'm tucked in behind my mom's chair now but sometimes I go into the bathroom where there aren't any windows or I go into one of the mommies' closets and just hide.
I love treats and I'll learn tricks for treats any day! I like to look at my pals' pictures and feel I'm a lucky girl to have so many friends!
That's it for today. I need to get the hang of this writing thing better.
