Christmas

I was wrapping up the last of the Christmas presents last night and I only had 2 "doggy" piles. Gosh, I miss you SO much! I had my favourite picture of you blown up and framed for the living room. I love to see you up there on the wall but I can see SO clearly me putting my arms around you whenever I look at it. I want to snuggle with you again so badly.

I think of all the things we did together and there are alot of things I wish I did with you. Because we were lucky enough to get you when the kids were so small, we were all busy bringing them up properly with a good Sheltie for a "role model dog!" You did a FABULOUS job and now your boy is training Dallas for Agility while Chico and I are also working hard. I think about how much fun you would've had learning this when you were young.

I will think of you Christmas morning when everybody else is opening their gifts and there's somebody missing. I still feel you all around me and I can't wait to see you again, running towards me barking like usual....

My favourite girl is gone...

We had to put our beloved diva to sleep this past Friday. Her health problems just got too much and she was confused most of the time. It all went as well as could be expected and it really did me good to feel her body relaxed and not in anymore pain.

I can't believe she's gone and it keeps crashing down on me every morning when I used to give her her pills. Supper time is very hard and I just can't bear to put her bowl away yet.

My mind knows I did the very best by her but I'm waiting for my heart to catch up. She was the sweetest little dog and gave us so much happiness. I know she's up there waiting for me and I can't wait to see her again...

LOVE your dog...

My old bones

Yesterday when Dad came home he couldn't find me. I barked until he realized I was down in the basement and couldn't get back up the stairs. He came down to help me and saw that I couldn't move my hind end at all. I was dragging myself by my front legs. He went to pick up Mom (because she knows much more about "doggy" health then he does) and she called the doc right away. She was VERY upset although I didn't seem to be feeling any pain. Dad drove to the doc's because Mom was crying and couldn't possibly drive that way! She held me and I kept kissing away her tears, which made her cry even more - go figure! The doc said I had slipped a disc and Mom would have to practice some "doggy physiotherapy" on me. She was SO relieved! She gets so worried anytime anything happens at my age. Now I have to do "laps" in the bathtub while Mom holds me up in the water. I'm rather enjoying all the extra attention! Mom feels much better and so do I!

My camping trip

Mom decided to take me down to the doggy beach while we were camping last week. She knew it would be too much of a trek for my ol' bones so she drove as close as she could and I walked the rest of the way. Once we were at the water Mom wanted to see how I'd be. I used to LOVE the water! (as you can see from one of my photos when I was a little younger) Now that I'm older and my sight/hearing isn't so good, all I wanted to do was dip my toes and then lay on a rock to catch some rays. Mom tried to entice me into the water further but I wanted none of it! That was ok. I let Mom take some photos and then we just sat for a while. She told me she just wanted to know for sure that I didn't like the water anymore. She wanted it to be MY decision. We're both ok with that! Now on to more important things - like how to turn them Shepherd Dogs into EXPERT campers...

The Big Guy's back

My brother, Chico had to have surgery today to have a lump removed. He came home with a cone on his head. Let me tell you, Shepherds are such wimps! He's whining and crying and getting all this extra attention from Mom. I thought she was too smart to fall for that! You know I've been under the knife twice and both times I sucked it up and behaved like the diva I am! I thought Shepherds were strong and brave - yeah right! Yet I find myself feeling a little tingle of pity for the guy....; )
