Arrival Story:
I had tried to rescue a dog in a shelter in Louisville, KY. I was denied because my children had pets in the past and didn't give the conventional heartworm prevention. So, I started checking other shelters. After searching and driving several hours to different shelters over a period of a couple of weeks, I found Ginger (the shelter was calling her Maria) I took to her right away. Someone else was wanting to adopt her, so I had to wait 3 hours to see if that person ever showed up. I stayed around that town until the time I could go back and I found out that I was going to be able to get her. She was excited about getting outside. She rode very well in the car and seemed potty trained when I got her. (except when I took her to someone elses house - she always found a place on their floor)

Bio:
Ginger has a floating rib. It was visible when I got her, but after a month with me, you couldn't see that anymore. She has to be limited on her food, she tends to eat everything that is there... even if it is for the other dog. She has actually put on a little too much weight and I am working now to slowly slim her back down to where she needs to be. Updated 2009 ~ Ginger has lost weight. She weighs a little over 18 pounds. I took her to the vet & he says she is ok & that it is just her age. She acts fine. She still loves food and I feed her plenty, but sometimes I still wonder if maybe I should insist on some testing. The only reason I haven't is because she appears to be alert, playful, loving & energetic. I don't want to put her through unnecessary testing. Update November 2009: I took Ginger to another vet and had extensive tests ran. She is not diabetic. The blood work and everything seems to be okay. She doesn't seem any different physically either.

Diary of the Day

Yesterday my mom didn't get her email until late, so she didn't know until late last night that I was posted on Diary of the Day! That was so cool. I saw my picture on the Community page & a link to my diary. I know this because mom put her laptop in front of me so I could see it.

I even had a message from a nice guy, Redford, who made a Congratulations picture for me. It was awesome! Thanks Dogster!

Hearing isn't so easy anymore

It's been awhile since we have been able to write anything because mom has been busy doing other stuff. So, I will post a quick update. Lucy & Gizmo have already mentioned our new brother, Cloud, so I won't get into that.

Over the past 1 1/2 years, my hearing has been getting worse. I am still able to hear a real loud bang but cannot hear someone clap their hands or talk to me. My mom is awful nice & makes sure she doesn't scare me if I am not looking at her when she starts to touch me. I use the other dogs as my ears. I know when someone is here because of their actions. I also still follow my mom around almost every where she goes in the house. She gets upset with me sometimes because she turns & trips on me because she didn't see me follow her. Sometimes I'm pretty quick. :-)

I'm not allowed outside when mom & dad are feeding the farm animals because I started taking off & leaving the property again. I'm sure part of the reason is because I cannot hear anymore & may not find my way back home. I wouldn't know what to do without my mom, so I don't mind that I have to stay in the pen. I can still see her & I know it doesn't take too long for them to finish their chores. Sometimes I just go back inside & relax until they come back in. Also, Gizmo will stay in & hang out with me sometimes. He's a good brother. He takes such good care of me too. He is always licking my ears for me. I think he is trying to help me hear. I'm the only one he does that to. I let him do it because it feels good.

I will check back in as soon as I get a chance. Take care, my friends. Lots of love! Ginger

We don't run off anymore

I used to run off if I had a chance to get out the gate. But, Lucy & I both promised mom & dad that we would stay with them if they give us one more chance. We went to the pond today & we stayed with the family. Well, I ran off for just a minute so I could check on the cat food in papaws barn. I used to love going in there & eating all the cat food. Koda went with me but he went over to the chickens. He was good though. He didn't try to get any of the chickens this time. He just looked at them. But, when mom & dad yelled for us to come back, we did. We just got a little side tracked, that's all.

I didn't get in the water. I don't like water very much. Lucy likes getting muddy. Koda & Fox like swimming in the deep water. Thanks, but I will just watch the others.

I added another picture. It was taken a couple of months ago but I wanted everyone to see what my dad did for us. He fixed us a place where we can ride on the motorcycle with them. We've only used it once & that was when we had to go get our hair cut. It was a lot of fun. We probably can't do it anymore though because Koda & Fox are too big.

Mom said she has to get our food ready so I guess I will let Gizmo write something.
