Arrival Story:
I had tried to rescue a dog in a shelter in Louisville, KY. I was denied because my children had pets in the past and didn't give the conventional heartworm prevention. So, I started checking other shelters. After searching and driving several hours to different shelters over a period of a couple of weeks, I found Ginger (the shelter was calling her Maria) I took to her right away. Someone else was wanting to adopt her, so I had to wait 3 hours to see if that person ever showed up. I stayed around that town until the time I could go back and I found out that I was going to be able to get her. She was excited about getting outside. She rode very well in the car and seemed potty trained when I got her. (except when I took her to someone elses house - she always found a place on their floor)

Bio:
Ginger has a floating rib. It was visible when I got her, but after a month with me, you couldn't see that anymore. She has to be limited on her food, she tends to eat everything that is there... even if it is for the other dog. She has actually put on a little too much weight and I am working now to slowly slim her back down to where she needs to be. Updated 2009 ~ Ginger has lost weight. She weighs a little over 18 pounds. I took her to the vet & he says she is ok & that it is just her age. She acts fine. She still loves food and I feed her plenty, but sometimes I still wonder if maybe I should insist on some testing. The only reason I haven't is because she appears to be alert, playful, loving & energetic. I don't want to put her through unnecessary testing. Update November 2009: I took Ginger to another vet and had extensive tests ran. She is not diabetic. The blood work and everything seems to be okay. She doesn't seem any different physically either.

We don't run off anymore

I used to run off if I had a chance to get out the gate. But, Lucy & I both promised mom & dad that we would stay with them if they give us one more chance. We went to the pond today & we stayed with the family. Well, I ran off for just a minute so I could check on the cat food in papaws barn. I used to love going in there & eating all the cat food. Koda went with me but he went over to the chickens. He was good though. He didn't try to get any of the chickens this time. He just looked at them. But, when mom & dad yelled for us to come back, we did. We just got a little side tracked, that's all.

I didn't get in the water. I don't like water very much. Lucy likes getting muddy. Koda & Fox like swimming in the deep water. Thanks, but I will just watch the others.

I added another picture. It was taken a couple of months ago but I wanted everyone to see what my dad did for us. He fixed us a place where we can ride on the motorcycle with them. We've only used it once & that was when we had to go get our hair cut. It was a lot of fun. We probably can't do it anymore though because Koda & Fox are too big.

Mom said she has to get our food ready so I guess I will let Gizmo write something.

It was nice to be out of the pen

We were allowed to get out of the pen with Koda & Fox today. I almost ran off but changed my mind when I heard mom say she would make me stay in the pen if I didn't get back quick. I decided I better listen to her. Me & Lucy used to like to run away when we were out of the pen. The best part for me was going up to papaws barn & eating all the cat food. hehehe

I like my new hair cut. I think it makes me look younger. I will try to get a picture on here soon so others can tell me what they think too. Talk to you all again soon! Love, Ginger

Who is getting food off the counter?

It's been two times now that mom & dad come home & the empty bread sack is in the floor. They are trying to figure out who is doing that. My guess would be Koda because he loves food like I do & he is big enough to get it off the counter. Us shorter dogs can't get it. But, if I could... you know I would because I love food too! I heard mom & dad talking & they are going to set up the video camera to catch the bread thief. I guess that will solve all of the guessing.

Mom thinks it is Koda because he grabs the empty bag & brings it to her when she walks in. I might know... but I'm not gonna tell on anyone.
