Arrival Story: On the Monday before Thanksgiving/07, I took (foster)-Cowboy and (my dog)Meeka to the dog-park in Grand Prairie. This scared little girl had been dumped in the parking lot of the adjacent shelter because the shelter was closed that day. She was so pitiful; she ducked away from every dog and shyed away from every person (including me).
Luckily I had an open foster-"spot", because there was no way I could have left her there.

Bio: Ellie Mae was adopted on Feb 22, 2008 by a great couple (& their 13-mo/old daughter) that had just moved to Dallas from California.
8/11/08: They rescued a puppy they found and decided to keep him too!

Forums Motto: Swear OFF Underwear!

BEWARE of Underwear!: On Feb 7, we took in another Rescue cattle dog from Irving shelter. ON Feb 10, he tested positive for parvo.
{{{we thought: no worries-because Ellie was 8mo's old at the time and totally UTD on all her vaccinations...}}}
BUT Then...
On Monday, Feb 11 Ellie vomitted up all of her supper. She would not touch food after that. I took her to the vet and she had a NEGATIVE parvo test. (but the vet still assumed parvo) so they sent me home with medicines and fluids to give her sub-Q. I gave her sub-q fluids and squirted fluids/meds down her throat with a syringe for 3 FULL DAYS. I could not get her to eat anything. I couldn't sleep and was afraid to leave her for even a few hours at a time. By Thursday night, I decided that "this" vet was not helping me and drove to Dallas first thing Friday morning to take her to the vet typically used by CPR. The vet immediately noticed that Ellie was "guarding" a certain area of her tummy and recommended immediate exploratory surgery. Less than 2 hours later, the vet called me to tell me that she had removed a pair of my undees from Ellie's intestine and that she could come home the following day! When I picked her up, she was "good as new" --back wanting to eat everything in sight! WHEW! {THANK YOU Dr. Sarpong!}
