Arrival Story:
I have wanted to have a dog again for a long time now...so last week I started looking at the local animal shelter websites and then went down. After lots of looking...I fell in love. Fitz is a Catahoula Leopard/Australian Cattle dog mix. He was a stray and the shelter thinks he's a little over 2 years old. He is very sweet and loving. The shelter is sending him to the vet on Monday (St Patricks Day) and then we will get to bring him on home on Tuesday.

Ah!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a great day. I woke up in the shelter this morning, hung out there for a bit, said good-bye to my pals, and was off to the vet.

The Dr examined me and then called mommy to give her some good and bad news. She took the bad first - I have an Upper Respiratory Infection, but they gave me some medicine and said I should be fine in a few days.
The good news was that I had already been fixed - I knew I wasn't broken, but these humans just won't listen sometimes. Anyhow, bc of that Mommy was able to come and pick me up, with Claudia!!!!

So, after a short car ride (which I did well with), we got home and Mommy made me go outside for a few minutes, which was fine...I have a whole new back yard to check out. Then I came in, got a new tennis ball (which I have already successfully chewed up - thank you very much. Of course Mom threw it away so I will have to start over again...that's okay, i saw a bag of them, i'm not worried!) Mommy and Claudia showed me around the house, lots of new places to sniff, and now I'm running the show! Not really, but I am being spoiled! I may keep these people!

Mommy made hamburgers for dinner, but refused to let Claudia feed me. I sat nicely, not sure what the problem was. So, since she had given me my food I finally got bored and ate all of it while she and Claudia ate their dinner.

While Mommy was cooking my new "brother" (the CAT) came upstairs full of attitude and fur standing everywhere. He looked ridiculous! I stared at him for a little bit, but grew bored, watching Mommy cook was more enjoyable, but she didnt' drop anything - darn it! Anyhow, the CAT's real name is Whiskers, I guess he'll be fine...once he stops walking around like a big 'ol fur ball!

Claudia likes to cover me up when I nap...who am I to complain??? I think I'm gonna like it here.

I will keep you posted.

Licks 'n Love,

Fitz

I can't wait for Tuesday

Well, I have seen many people during my stay here at the shelter, but this week something very good happened; People decided they want me!!!! My new mommy spent a lot of the afternoon here on Monday trying to find the right dog to bring home, she even came back after the little person got out of school. THAT is when she found me!

We played for awhile, I was on my best behavior, and then I heard mommy tell the little person (my "sister") that she wanted to take me home! Mommy has been here every day this week...they must like me. My sister couldn't come yesterday, so Mommy came by herself. Today they both came and stayed for a long time.
I like my sister (they call her Claudia), I tried to show her today that I make a good lap dog....she didn't agree! So, I sat next to her on her seat. Then we went inside and Claudia tried to get me to play fetch...i just prefer chewing on the tennis ball....but we had fun when she would try to take it from me and i would smack at her w/my paw - she laughed.

Mommy said they would see me tomorrow, but then not for a few days because the shelter is closed on Sunday, and on Monday I go to the vet....then Tuesday I get to go home!!!!!!

I can't wait!!! Wish me luck.
