Arrival Story:
it all started in june of '03. travis and i set out to find ourselves the cutest puppy pie they had in town. i had my mind set on us getting a little dog. perhaps a pomeranian. since we lived in a rather small apartment at the time i didn't think it would be fair to get a large dog without having a yard for it. while at our county shelter they showed us lily. she was the first puppy they showed us. at 8 weeks old and barely 7 pounds she was adorable. then came the news... someone had broken her knee cap on her right hind leg and failed to get her any medical attention. so, here she was dragging this little leg around with her since she couldn't bend it and she had no feeling from her knee down. it broke our hearts. who could do this to such an innocent animal? that we will never know for sure. thankfully, animal services had already contacted a vet who offered to amputate lily's leg free of charge for whoever ended up adopting her. if it hadn't of been for that, there would have been no way we could have gotten her. not at nearly $1000. we then walked over to the aspca (they're right next door..) and began looking at the dogs they had to offer there. but our mind was already made up before we even reached their kennels. lily was ours. she had to be. wanda (the nicest lady ever..) helped us with our adoption papers. everyone at the shelter was so glad "sugar baby" was going to a home. that august lily had her leg amputated. we had to wait for her to get a bit older and to have all of her puppy shots. i was a nervous wreck! i called the vet every hour to check on her. the next morning the vet said they took her out to go potties and she was running around all over the place! she finally had freedom from that leg that held her back for so long. now.. a year later and she's still our baby pie. i think she's gorgeous. i don't notice her leg at all. most people can't tell either unless they're looking at her right side. the only difference between her and other dogs is the jumping. she does jump, but very rarely. she has to get a pretty good running start to make it onto the bed. mostly she does it when her and max have been chasing each other around the house. other wise she hops. it's the cutest! while at petsmart one day this lady approached me and thanked me for giving a "handicapped" dog a home. she said most people wouldn't even consider it. that blew my mind. it was almost an insult to me. as if lily wouldn't show you the love and compassion that a 4 legged dog would. i've had many dogs through out my life, but none of them compare to the two i have now.

my mommy finally got some of my puppy pictures on her computer now!
to see them go here: http://photobucket.com/albums/v407/gretchanne/ i'm the cute one! i'm the cute one! you can actually see what my leg looked like before it was amputated. it's my right hind one, just so you know! =o) i couldn't bend it or anything. that's why it's sticking out in those photo's.

well..my mommy is running around the house making sure we have plenty of water and there isn't anything outside that the wind can blow around. i guess that only means one thing... A HURRICANE IS A COMIN'! oh, no. i remember how badly i hated frances and charley. i didn't get to go outside because of the wind and man do i hate having to go potties when it's raining. icky! hopefully this one won't do much damage. at least i get to be inside with my people and get plenty of couch time! wait.. hehe.. i always get plenty of couch time! but now mommy is taking us out longer than normal because we won't be able to spend much time outside while the hurricane is coming through. i wasn't scared during the last two, but boy did i hate how our power went off. i love my a/c! it keeps me nice and cool and it's a great excuse as to why my mommy has to wrap me up in a blankie! hehe. eep.. mommy just said the 't' word.. tttttttttttttttttreat time!!

today my mommy signed my cute self up for dogster. i guess i really am as pretty as she tells me. or else she wouldn't want the whole world to know. my day so far has been spent lounging on the couch next to mommy and occasionally pushing up against her and forcing her to move postions. ahh.. sometimes it's great to be a dog. =o) i get tons of attention. not to mention i get free roam of the couches and mommy and daddy's bed. ahhh..
