Arrival Story: Lucy first came into the Pet Adoption League animal shelter in Yukon, PA in August of 2007. When she first came in, she was very very shy. She had originally come from a puppy mill, from which we rescued her. She had already had one litter of puppies, and seemed to be just a puppy herself! After being at the shelter a couple of weeks, she started getting a little braver every day. She would come up to people on her belly, and then immediately roll over on her back in submission when someone would touch her. Slowly, she came around more and more and eventually would get very excited when certain people would be in sight. She went to a foster home for two weeks, in October, and then was adopted by a very kind "little old man". Lucy absolutely loved her new owner, and he loved her right back. She had a wonderful life. Until....January 2008...her old man got sick, and couldn't take care of little Lucy any longer. The family decided it would be best to return Lucy to the shelter so that she could be adopted out to another family that would have more time to devote to her. Back at the shelter, her previous foster mom couldn't possibly leave her there. So, Lucy got to go back to the foster home that she already knew. In the meantime, sadly, her owner passed away. The day we found this out, Lucy was in a very sad, depressed mood. It's like she knew...somehow sensed that he was gone forever. But she jumped right back into life the next day. And boy did she jump!!! This little rascal/rugrat has a bundle of energy, just like any jack russel. She is sweet and cuddly and just looks so darn cute and innocent....how could anyone every get mad at her for jumping all over you while you are trying to do the bills, or read a book, or go to sleep! Yes...she is a night owl! She thinks bedtime is playtime. Oh but, that all will change. On March 4, she will go to her new adoptive home and into a more stable environment with a little more structure and finally settle down in a forever home! We all love you Lucy! BE good girl!
