Quick Bio:
-purebred-service dog

Likes:
Tree stumps. They are especially good when they're covered in ants!

Pet-Peeves:
Not being allowed to play with kids who pet me while I am working.

Favorite Toy:
The little poodle dog.

Favorite Food:
Beef heart, strawberries, sweets (if I can convince someone to give me some), and spicy food!

Favorite Walk:
Down along the river, where there are lots of bugs!! Now it is flooded so it's more like a swim.

Best Tricks:
She knows a lot about traffic safety. A transport can drive by 2 feet from her butt and she knows she will be safe, but she also knows to keep us out of the road if she hears a car coming.

Arrival Story:
I had tentatively chosen Tesla out of the eight females in her litter when she was three weeks old. By the time I went back to pick her up, the breeder had decided to keep her. I tested some of the other puppies, but they were all too hyperactive or inattentive. Tesla, on the other hand, is very calm and confident. After a while, the breeder allowed me to keep Tesla, although she was very reluctant to give her up! She slept most of the way home, waking up only to pee on my boyfriend's carpet, with a victoriuous look on her face.

Bio:
I am being trained as a Service dog with tasks in medical alert and response, along with some other useful tasks for special situations.

The Tesla Effect

I think I am doing something wrong.

January 5th 2009 2:01 pm   [link to this entry]

I know that people are not supposed to pet me while I am working. Usually when they try, mom makes funny noises to get me to look at her, and ignore the human that wants to play.

Well, I figured I could help her out. Today a big friendly lady was coming to pet me in the grocery store, so I woofed at her one time to tell her to go away. Mom was NOT happy. I don't get it, I was just trying to help out! I don't get it!

Chrissssstmas! I love Christmas!

December 25th 2008 7:38 pm   [link to this entry]

Guess what? Today was Christmas and it was so fun, I don't even know what Christmas is but guess what we did? Lots of things!

I woke up and there were shiny packages under the tree, and i could smell that lots of them were for me because they spelled like doggie toys or meat, and Mom doesn't play with doggies toys OR eat meat, so I stayed right there and stared intently at the packages while mom ate breakfast. Then we got to open them (Reaaaaaallly slow, one at a time) and I found some liver treats, a Christmas collar, a reindeer toy that squeaks, and a brush that mommy used to massage my with. It felt good.

Later we went to the home for old humans, and pets are allowed there so I do not have to wear my vest. I like that because the nice people can all hug me and tell Mom about the dogs they used to have. I lay around for a while and Mom sang songs with her grandma.

Then we went back home to get ready for supper. Mom kept me on a leash to make sure I was well behaved and didn't get too excited before guests arrived. I was pretty good all night!

At first I had to stay in a down so I dozed off a bit, but after everyone had arrived and been talking for a while, mom released me to play. I took the opportunity to ask everyone to throw my reindeer toy for me many many times, but I always kept an eye on Mom and followed when she left the room.

I stayed nicely under the table during supper and then after, when everyone left, I found a comfy place on the sofa to sleep. It was a long day, but good.

I hope it is Christmas again tomorrow!

Hide and seek.

December 20th 2008 12:35 pm   [link to this entry]

Mom and I went to the mall today and we played hide and seek. Mom says it is a training exercise but really it is just a game. I know.

Here's how it works: I am on a long leash and mom tells me to sit or stand, then she goes and hides behind something where I cannot see her. I have to stay still until she calls me, then I have to go to her without paying attention to other people. When I find her, I sit down again and then she gives me a treat! It is really fun.

We did one hide-and seek in the food court where I had to step over a whole container of poutine that somebody dropped on the floor, but I just hoped right over it and didn't even sniff, because I had to go straight to Mom. That's the point of the game, you see.
