I was getting a place of my own so I decided to look for a dog. My son wanted a Jack Russell. We went to look a litter of pups a few weeks before Christmas. I put a deposit down on one without my son knowing. My son talked constantly about the puppies and said that he would love to have a dog for Christmas named Sparky. I told my mom that I was getting a dog. She explained that it could not live at their house because my dad would never have a dog live in the house.
Our family had a death a four days before Christmas. Everyone was so upset that I almost forgot about the puppy. On top of that, my new place was not going to be ready until February. I had to break the news to my dad that there was going to be a puppy living in their house. My dad never let us have any pets in the house when I was growing up.
I told my dad on December 23rd that I was going to bring a puppy home for my son. My dad said, "Well, is it a big or little dog?" I gave him the details and he was okay with everything! He even sounded excited.
Our family arrived back in PA on Christmas Eve in late afternoon. My dad asked when I was going to get the puppy. I left to get the dog.
I returned home with puppy wearing a big red bow. Everyone was so excited. My dad was actually playing with him.
My son changed the dog's name to Jack instead of Sparky. He said,"Mom, he looks like a "Jack", What do you think?"
