Arrival Story:
Catherine (aka Ripley - because she ripples when she walks!) came to me as a foster when she was the young age of approximately 12 years old...her life so far had been tough, after living in a home in Texas without air conditioning with 12 cats and 14 dogs, and eating leftovers off of the floor. She was blind in one eye, most likely caused by some sort of puppy-hood trauma, but she didn't let it bother her. When her owner died of complications from a terminal illness, she was given with the rest of her furry pals to a shelter and everyone got adopted out but her. Luckily, I was able to save her. She was on a mission to lose some weight (she was about 20 lbs overweight) but had difficulty due to thyroid problems. She adjusted quickly to her new friends, Rugby and his kitty crew (she loves kitties!). Considering all that she went through, she was super well adjusted not to mention friendly and VERY cuddly. We will miss her.

Bio:
Catherine began work in a therapy dog program in Dallas to visit nursing homes and childrens hospitals. She was close to completing her probationary period for certification to be recognized on the National Therapy Dog registery before she was unable to continue due to complications from arthrytis. However, she enjoyed her new "career" and she took her work seriously and it mean't so much to her to make the ones she visited smile. :O) Sadly, on Saturday 12/24/05 Catherine went to the Rainbow Bridge after suffering heart failure. She was such a sweet girl and everyone that got the pleasure to meet her will miss her very much. We only had her for a year and a half and that time was far too short. We will miss her smile and her warm gentleness forever.

"We Only Wanted You"

They say memories are golden, well maybe that is true.
We never wanted memories, we only wanted you.
A million times we needed you, a million times we cried.
If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died.

In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still.
In our hearts you hold a place no one could ever fill.
If tears could build a stairway and heartache make a lane,
We'd walk the path to heaven and bring you back again.

Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.

* Don't Weep for Me *
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sun on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awake in morning's hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand by my grave and cry,
I am not there;
I did not die.

- Mary Frye

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

If tears could build a stairway,
And memories were a lane,
I would walk right up to Heaven
To bring you home again.

No farewell's were spoken,
No time for goodbye,
You were gone before I knew it,
And only God knows why.

My heart still aches in sadness,
And secret tears will flow,
What is meant to me to lose you,
No one will ever know.
