Arrival Story:
I found an ad in the newspaper so I called. It was a breeder and I asked her to send me a picture of him. It was love at first sight!! Had to travel about an hour to see in person with my kids. He was standing by the fireplace in a white clothes basket. He could barely reach the top. All you saw was his little eyes and paws. Soo cute. Could not get him that day, got him about 3 weeks later. Those weeks seemed so long to us. Got him at about a little over 3 months of age. Our first family dog and I can't imagine life without him.

A Big Boy Now

How time flys, Spanky is now 3 years old and boy has he really grown.
All the time and effort put into this little dog has really paid off. We have such a great dog in Spank.

Did I say dog? I meant to say person. He is not a dog, he's human I sware.
At 3 years of age Spank has really matured. He is very loving and affectionate to those he knows should I say. I blame myself for not socializing him as well as I thought I did when he was smaller. For those he knows he's really cool with, they get to see the best he has to offer. For those he doesn't know, gets to see what could be mistaken for a mad beast. With Spank its all bark with no bite. I keep saying I'd like to take him to a class or something and eventually I will. This is with people that is (some), with animals he's cool, always friendly.

Human he is, he's my best friend! He understands everything I say to him. Sometimes he can be moody, so can I. Sometimes I piss him off, sometimes he pisses me off. We never hold grudges. We watch movies together and play games.

He still thinks he's the boss of me, I've given up trying to work on that, bol.

He doesn't like baths, what boy that you know does?

His favorite food is pasta of any. All I have to say is I am cooking spaghetti and he gets so excited. He likes cereal, the milk mostly and bread. He still tries to get at my coffee but now I am better at keeping it away from him so that's my battle won, ha.

Spank sleeps on the bed, cannot really say when that all started but man, can I have some room? Between him and my husband I wind up on the edge most nights just barely hanging on. Tell me why he feels the need to completely stretch out to the fullest. Tell me why my husband cannot seem to stay to his side.

He's such a good boy, I could not picture life without him.

Spanky has really grown in the past two years. He is the best dog ever and we love him so much. Spanky has quite a personality and he really has a good understanding of what is expected of him.

Right now Joe is teaching him how to role over which I have to say is pretty funny to watch. Bol

We can now take Spank out, off of the leash, without worrying about him running off until he feels like coming back. Man I can't tell you enough how many times I wanted to spank his behind for during that.

He is officially potty trained and does really well both outside and (when indoors) on his litter tray I use. No more midnight runs.

Spanky still prefers human food over dog food and yes we do give in to him more than not, when it comes to that. (frowning)

Spanky is very alert and makes a great watchdog. I am so sure nobody would ever get in without him knowing. Sometimes I think he sees himself as bigger than he is. Guess it's a boy thing. Mr. Rough and Tough.

Oh and yes, he still thinks he's the boss of me. I'm thinking of joining a union, anyone know of a good one? I have to have rights to you know.......

In the beginning

In Spank's pak there is myself, my boyfriend Joe, my daughter Jocelyn, my two boys Antuan and Jay and of course Spank.
For years I have always wanted a dog. My oldest son Jay has always loved dogs and wanted one also. I had one as a child but when we had to move to another state, we moved and she had to stay behind. It took me a long time to get over that.
My boyfriend has always liked pets and even had dogs growing up but never wanted one for our family. He has allergies so that was one of his issues in having a pet and also not having a big enough yard and besides the work of potty training and feeding and all that good stuff. I promised to take on full responsibility for the dog with the assistance of the kids. He finally agreed and that's when Spanky came into our lives.
I chose a Bichon because of the things I read about the breed and the fact that they are considered to be hypo-allergenic which was important because of Joe's allergies. It was so exciting to have a pup at home. You should have seen the kids faces when he first walked through the door.
Spank came in with such confidence, like he was the man!! There's a new sheriff in town and his name is "Spanky". Jay came up with that name. We had considered naming him Snoopy. No fear in them bright eyes. This was his house now.
The first couple of weeks were tough. It was like having a new baby in the house. I was having to get up every 2 hours almost. He did'nt like sleeping in his crate after spending a night (ok maybe more) in our bed. I had to!! After leaving him in the crate downstairs and hearing him cry all night we had no choice but to take his crate into our bedroom just to shut him up. Now upstairs having him looking at you and whinning (so cute) I could not resist but to let him sleep with us. What a big mistake!! After that, he thought he would be sleeping in bed permanently. Now that I think about it he probably wanted me on the floor. LOL. When I put him back in his crate (in my room) he started his crying business again but I was'nt budging on that, so he got over it. My first battle won, WOW. I was using training pads for him to potty on. That's the term we use "potty". The pads were convenient because at night I did'nt have to get dressed and take him out. I kept the pad in my room by his crate. He did pretty good to with it but it sometimes seemed like it worked more for his advantage than mine. At bedtime he would whine to go potty so I would take him out of his crate, he would potty and then I would put him back in the crate. No sooner than I would lay down and turn off the lights he would whine again and I would have to repeat the whole process. Sometimes he would go and sometimes he would'nt. I had to get up to let him potty even though I did'nt think he had to because being so little what if I stayed in bed and ignored him and he did really have to go, now I would have to clean his crate out and probably give him a bath and all at around 4 in the morning. No thanks! So I just got up everytime. He knew what he was doing. Notice I keep saying " I ". Remember me and my big mouth said I'd take full responsibility. I could'nt just go wake the kids up to do it. After all they had school in the morning even though I had work and Joe, well he just got to sleep. Men!!!
In every dog pak there is a "Pak Leader". Since I got the dog and was doing everything for the dog, I figured I'd be pak leader. "Wrong". That's not how it works. Apparently it is the dog who decides who is pak leader (by observing who is most in control, calm and assertive) and Spanky had decided that Joe would be pak leader. ARE YOU KIDDING ME, is what I was thinking.
Actually even better, Spanky decided on a "Chain of Command" even. You see, Joe was Pak Leader, 2nd in command was SPANKY, then I was 3rd. What!!!! After everything I've done and do. I guess I should be thankful he thought of me at all, huh?
The nerve of him. His own personal pooper- scooper and this is what I get.
You want to know what, til this day he still follows by "his" chain of command.
I'm still working on coming in 2nd, for now. Apparently being pak leader is "BIG" so I have to take baby (doggy) steps to get there. lol
You gotta love him........Momma's baby
