Arrival Story: Jasper was a stray, running with some other "town dogs". We noticed him a few weeks ago around the school--he seemed to be attracted to the children--but he would not let anybody touch him. He also was getting dangerously close to the school buses. He had no collar and the lady whose yard he was hanging out in said he was for sure a stray. She had been feeding him along with her dog and he had even slept with her dog when it was cold and nasty. We decided that since nobody had claimed him, it was time to do something, so we lured him into a crate with some treats. After a couple of days of anxiety and being unsure, he warmed right up to us and now has fit right in with us and the other dogs. He is a real love-bug, very loyal and is learning every day. He is house trained (mostly), leash trained, and he has been neutered. He also sleeps very well through the night in his crate right beside our bed. He loves to play chase and play with dog toys. He is so sweet and loving and eager to please that he would make a wonderful friend for someone.
Since we found him as a stray in town, we named him Jasper, after the town.

I don't remember where I came from--all I know is that while I was still young I found myself alone and on the loose, running the town of Jasper. It was very scary because there were other dogs, some of them mean, and people and cars and trucks and was hungry all the time. I found a dog that lived in a yard and sometimes I would eat some of his food and his human mom started leaving food for me--I think she felt sorry for me. She kept calling me "Seymour".
Every day, lots of kids would show up at the school across the street and I would walk over there to see them.. Some of them talked to me and tried to pet me but I was afraid. Plus the big yellow things that roared and smoked would almost run over me, so I would go back across the street where it was safe.
One day and man and lady came into the yard where I was hanging out and offered me lots of good food. I was afraid but I was also starved and after a few minutes, I got some. It tasted SO good that I wanted more. They put it in a wire cage and when I went in to get it, they closed the gate. I screamed and banged in to the sides of the cage and they put me in a van and drove.
Soon I was at a new house , where 4 dogs came out and sniffed at me. They were all friendly. Soon the man and lady (Jeff and Linda) were calling me "Jasper". I learned that I had plenty to eat, a warm bed, friendly humans and dogs to play with. I got LOTS of petting! Nobody hit me or threw things at me or tried to hurt me. I was scared of a leash at first but now I know it won't hurt me. I love my family. When I am good, I get a spoonful of vanilla ice cream at bedtime!!
I like it here a lot, but I would love to have a forever home with somebody that would love me as much as they do here. If you would take a chance on me, I would love you forever.
Your friend, Jasper the dog
