Arrival Story: Sammie had been with us for a year and we decided that we wanted a second dog. We were considering either a Border Collie or a German Shepherd. I had developed an affinity for Border Collies - probably because Sammie is a Border Collie. My husband started looking around for breeders - he wanted to get a dog from a breeder this time - and he heard about one who had a German Shepherd for sale. We went down to look at it and took Sammie along so he could meet the potential dog. The first dogs we met were the Border Collies. The breeder let all of her Border Collies out of their area and they gathered around us, friendly and curious. There were two puppies - Speedy and his sister, Desire. I remember saying, "oh, if only we were ready to get a puppy!" But we left them to look at the German Shepherd. The German Shepherd was a beautiful dog, but was not really what we were looking for. In addition, Sammie was terrified of the German Shepherd. We went back to say "goodbye" to the Border Collies and the puppies ran up to us. One kept running up to Sammie to play with him. I picked that one up and asked if it was the girl. No - it was the boy. I put him back down. A few minutes later a puppy was playing at my feet. I picked it up and asked if it was the girl. No - it was the boy again. Well, that was it. He was our puppy - he knew it and we knew it! We kind of wanted a girl, but there was no way we were leaving Speedy behind that day!

Bio: Speedy is that "once in a lifetime most special dog ever" for us! We absolutely love his brother, Sammie, and his sister, Maddie, but there is just something special about Speedy. He is reserved with strangers, but never, never with us! He does like to go out and about, though. Speedy enjoys going to training classes. He has studied basic obedience and agility in the past and now he studies Rally-O. But, of course, his favorite thing in the world is playing ball, ball, ball!
