It's Tough to Be so Cute

New Brother!

Mom took me to a funny place today. At first I thought I was going to the vet's office again, so I was a little nervous, but after we waited in the front room we went to a little pen to run (instead of a doctor's office like I had thought). Just when I was having fun and running around, it got better-- some woman brought another dog out to play with me. First we were both on our leashes to make sure we would get along, but after a while they let us off the leashes and play together. I chased him, he chased me, we played with a ball... it was lots of fun. Mom says he's going to be my new brother! I think that means he's coming to live with us tomorrow. I'm so excited!

Recovery period: OVER

Well, it's been six LONG weeks since the knee surgery for my luxating patellas, but according to the doctors, I am all better! I begrudgingly wore those awful casts, peed dutifully in the yard instead of all over the neighborhood, and didn't run up or down the stairs but a few times, but now that my six weeks are through, it's time to wreak some havoc! I'm ready to wrestle with those two big boxers down the street, to play Frisbee in the soccer field, and to spend a little time off the leash next time we're out in the country. Watch out big dogs of Brookland... I'm coming!

What am I thankful for?

I am thankful that my parents didn't leave me here all by myself like I thought they were going to do last week. (I peed right on the bed to make sure they knew I was upset about it!) I saw them packing up those big black suitcases again, and I thought they were leaving, like Dad did last time he got out the suitcase. But alas, when Wednesday night rolled around, Dad said, "Wanna go for a ride in the car?!" We picked Mom up, and we were off!

I am thankful that my parents weren't too too mad when I peed in the house once we got there. I was just so excited to be in a new house, and playing with other dogs (and BIG dogs, too!)... I'm sorry, but I think they forgive me. Once we got to Mom's parents' house, I was pretty good. I only peed in the kitchen that one time.

I am thankful that Mom's parents understand that even the little guys need big bones sometimes. Oh wait, that big bone was for the big dog... I just stole it out from under Tokay's nose! Hahahahah. Well, I guess then I'm thankful that Tokay knows how to share, because I sure as heck don't!

I am thankful for that long hike we got to take on Saturday. Man, that was awesome! Mom let me off the leash for almost half of the time! I could sniff anything I wanted, get my paws muddy, run with Tokay off the trail-- what a great time! Everyone was very surprised that I lasted the two hours. That'll teach them to judge a puppy by his velour sequined sweater-- I'm as tough as the next guy.

I am thankful for the treats and people food everyone gave me! Even though I'm mostly a vegetarian dog, Mom let her mom give me giblets from the turkey, since Tokay couldn't eat them all by himself. Mom figured it was a holiday, and since I sure as heck wasn't getting it at home, why not spoil me a little? My auntie G absolutely loved the fact that I can shake, so she really laid on the cheese-and-egg treats and peanut-butter-and-molasses-cookies whenever I performed! I also got wild rice, chick peas and black beans, green beans... not all at once of course.

I am VERY thankful that I have today to recuperate from the holiday. When we got back last night, all I did was sleep sleep sleep from about 5 until 9. I woke up for a bit to play (I think Mom and Dad wanted to tire me out again to make sure I'd sleep through the night), but I'll need some more napping today. Good thing Dad has today off so we can get some good snuggle time on the couch!

Happy Thanksgiving!
