Anal Glands

The Longest Car Ride Ever.

Thank you to all of you who cared or prayed or remembered us through the hurricane that came through in September. Well.. The Rita one, that is.

We are back home. Everyone in our family was able to return to their homes. Everyone had damage but no one's in our family was unlivable. We had to have our own roof replaced but finally got it fixed last month! Good bye blue tarp and thank you for your service!

School started back a few months ago and the businesses that are going to reopen have done so. There is still a lot.. a LOT of work to be done in the area but us Louisianians are toughing it out. We love our home and are pulling through nicely. Generally speaking.

I know hurricane Rita and it's effects will never be forgotten by those who had to go through it. The evacuation alone was enough to keep us talking for years. 8 hours to drive what usually might take 1.. Like I told a friend, I don't think I've ever seen Darby sleep so hard as when he did finally let himself sleep in the car.

It's been a long ride and very tiring. But thank you to all =)

Life after surgery...

So I'd been driving my family crazy, dragging my butt around the house (literally) but it was bothering me! For months, and at least once every month, we'd been making trips to the vets to have my anal glands expressed.. Not something nice to talk about but this act is sometimes necessary since they /were/ what was bothering me and they did make me smell /really/ bad, even after baths.

My owner decided to see about a solution to my problem. We found out that one of the glands had actually ruptured! The vet took me into surgery and removed both of them. Since one had ruptured, he had to take a little more tissue out so as not to leave gunk in there to cause an infection later (he really does care.. but I still bite him). I spent a couple days sleeping at the vet's and then my family came to get me! They were given specific instructions on how to take care of my while I heal and that it was going to take a while. Oh boy! Lots of pampering.

Well.. Excempt I'm not allowed on the new furniture unless there's a blanket covering it now since I'm still.. well, let's just say butt oriented surgery can be a bit messy for me and my owners. And boy do stitches itch!
