Leave a bone for Princess (1990-2006)

Quick Bio:
 Birthday: November 1st 1990
Likes: Traveling with my humans, doggie massage after a bath, seniors who pet me in the park.

Pet-Peeves: Vacuums, men in uniforms (letter carriers, police, etc.)

Favorite Toy: Dino, the seriously-chewed-up-and-dead-dead-dead-dinosaur

Favorite Food: Lamb, but only on special occasions - I'm on a diet.

Favorite Walk: The park a few steps away from our home - where all the neighbourhood dogs gather with their humans.

Best Tricks: Sleeping; pretending I'm going to throw myself off the sofa so that my human drops everything and runs to lift me down.

Arrival Story: I 'inherited' my current pair of humans from my first companion, an older lady who sadly passed away a few years ago.

Bio: I enjoy travelling. Due to quarantine regulations, I have yet to leave North America. However, I have been as far east as Newfoundland, as far south as Lousiana, as far west as Vancouver and as far north as Killarney Provincial Park. I prefer camping over hotels and travelling by car over airplanes. Fortunately, I'm small enough to travel with my humans in the cabin of the airplane.
I used to love all-day hikes on the Bruce Trail, but now my arthritis limits me to shorter walks. Still I enjoy being carried in a pouch when my humans are hiking.

Sadly, Princess has left us. She had a sudden onset of seizures on Tuesday. On Thursday, September 7, 2006, with bad to worse options for treatment, we decided to end her suffering. She passed peacefully.

Well, I'm officially blind. I've suspected it for some time now, but it's been definitely confirmed by my vet. It has had some impact on me, but not as much as one might expect. Now, I only exercise on the ground floor of the house (where there are no open staircases to fall down) and in the backyard (which is safer than the neighbourhood park). My people have set up a home office and family room on the ground floor so that they can be near me.
Also, I had dental surgery this summer for the first time. That was a miserable experience, but I'm all better now minus four bad teeth.
Many thanks to Sharon and George for taking care of me (feeding, medicating, grooming and exercising) while my people were away for a couple weeks. They even moved into my house so I wouldn't have to get used to a different place. They were so good, I didn't even miss my people.

Well, I turned 15 this month. It's been an interesting year. I had a little problem with a torn liagment this past spring and was feeling pretty miserable for a few weeks. I recovered from the surgery and now you would never guess which leg was injured. Now I'm on a strict diet so don't carry any extra weight to hurt my joints. Begging at the table doesn't work, but that doesn't stop me from trying.
I have some other chronic health problems, but they are also being treated. Mostly, I'm just slowing down. I still like to cuddle on the couch and go on trips, but I also like to sleep a lot.
I also had a visitor this year. For several months Copper, a Irish setter/collie mix, lived with us. I was OK with that, once I showed her that I was the boss. Still, I was a little irritated when her always-swishing-tail would smack me in the head. Anyway, she's back with her own people now. Maybe I'll visit her sometime.
