Gone to meet the other Angels

In my eyes Percy wasn't "special needs" he was just special. From the first moment I saw a picture of his face something inside me knew he was meant to be mine. After what seemed like an eternity he finally arrived.

I knew it would be a learning experience for us both and it was. Percy taught me that being blind isn't a disability and he could live a normal life. Nothing made that clearer than when on his second day here he jumped up into the chair and ate my lunch when I wasn't looking. As long as he could still smell he would be alright.

I taught him that there are people out there that will be kind and love him for him. He learned to trust me and when he finally went down the stairs for the first time by himself I felt like a Mother watching her child take it's first steps.

Percy had a rough start to life being a puppymill stud. He was discarded, blind and heartworm positive. One thing he did manage to do was educate people about rescue and puppy mills. He would make his yearly trip to the Erie County Fair and I was surprised at how many people would come back the next year and remember Percy.

That shouldn't have been a surprise as that's how Percy was. He made an impression on anyone that met him. He was gentle with small children and elderly people and dispite being dentally challenged he could also put any foster in their place. He was one of a kind and will be sadly missed.

Miss you Bubba and love you with all my heart.

Percy crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge January 29, 2008. He is running and playing with hearing and vision with his many friends and finally united with his special girl.

Long time no bark

It's hot, hot, hot here. Not fit for man nor four legged critters. I'm good, got the nice cool spot where the cold air blows out of that thing on the wall. Funny how it blows cold when it's hot out and blows hot when it's cold out. I'll have to check that out!!

Foster sister Audra left, she's living with her Daddy and sister pug Minnie. I hear they even got matching harnesses. She left on a Sunday and on Monday Mommy gets a phone call, OH OH!! Seems that someone dropped off a pug brother at the Animal Shelter. Off she goes, crate in van and comes back with Nikko.

Nikko is 5 and he was brought to the shelter to be put down. His people said they were moving out of the country and tried to find him a home and couldn't. You see Nikko is blind and diabetic. Mommy has to give him pricks 2x a day. The nice Animal Shelter lady showed Mommy what to do and boy was she nervous. Mommy HATES needles but she makes us go get them. We think he may have been an only. He didn't even know it was okay to jump up on the couch, we told him it's okay that's what the blankets are on there for. He's getting better now that he knows he won't get in big trouble. Mommy says now if he'd just stop licking her legs everything would be great.

Mommy is working on getting his insulin regulated. Poor old guy, Mommy says he's way to young to have this disease.

Well I'm off to reclaim my spot. Stay cool!!!!!

It's been busy around here. New foster girl Audra arrived and she's got no eyes just like Jed & I. Momma says she's NOT staying. I had surgery, Momma found a lump in my neck and the fine needle aspiration showed it wasn't just fatty tissue. I'm sporting a nice big bald patch and stitches. Won't know what it is until the lab results come back.

Sad news too, sister Gertie went to the Rainbow Bridge today. She got pnemonia and was fighting it. She started to get better on her Baytril but yesterday started to hack again and today took a turn for the worse. Momma had a vet appointment for today but Gertie crashed real fast. The Dogtor is only 2 minutes away but Gert didn't make it. She passed in the car on the way. Sister Gertie was with us for 7 short months but Momma said that's the price you pay for seniors. She said even if she knew it would only be a short while she'd do it all over again.

Not a good week

Miss Wednesday had another lump. Mommy found it and Dr. Z took it off yesterday. We have to wait for the results but we're pretty sure it's another MCT. Keep paws crossed for the Diva.

My dear sweet Symber, my love and special Valentine also crossed the Bridge. I'm sad but I know she had an awesome 3 years with a wonderful Mommy who loved her. My Mommy got leaky eyes. Not what we wanted to hear but Mommy said she's running around happy and healthy now at the Bridge. Our thoughts and prayers are with Symber and all her family. Heaven just needed another Angel. xoxox Symber.

She had a feeling that my hearing wasn't so good, I go into a deep, deep sleep lately. Yesterday the sun was shining, the snow was melting and we all went for walks. Now I LOVE my walks, run to the door when I hear the tags on my harness tinkle. Yesterday I did not hear the tags. Momma's voice would guide me so I wouldn't bump into things and now I can not hear it.
She told Daddy that it's okay, I still have my sniffer and boy I can smell food blocks away. Us pugs come with selective hearing anyway.
I went for my walk and enjoyed the smells. Gertie came with me and refused to walk home. Planted her old butt down and wouldn't move for anything. Momma had to carry her and try to guide me so I wouldn't walk into things.
I'm sure we were a sight to see!!!

Happy Holidays!!!

Went to the big Pug Claus party and we all got our pictures taken with Santa. I've been extra, extra good this year. I haven't bumped into the tree or even attempted to lift my leg on it. Mommy wasn't sure how that was going to go. Really she thought I would think it was wonderful to bring me my own tree so I wouldn't have to go out in the cold to pee. I know better than that and besides it's not really, really cold yet. The smell of cookies in the kitchen has me camped out there just waiting for something to drop. Mommy has to step over me, I'm not moving for anything.
We were starting to get ready for Christmas but now we don't know what to do!!! Come to find out my new sister Gertie is Jewish. Yep, Mommy finally tracked down where she came from after lots and lots of detective work. She was in a very loving home before she had to go live with the other mean lady that turned her over to rescue. Her original Mommy got sick and moved in with her sister and she couldn't come with her, no dogs were allowed. I think it's great that we are multi denominational, more parties means more food for us.

Happy Holidays to all my pals regardless of what holiday you celebrate. Hope you get lots and lots of treats.

Poor foster sister went to the vet man to get her dental. Not good, they took out all her teeth except the 4 canines. She's getting extra lovin' and I heard she's getting an extra special breakfast too.
I told Mommy we didn't need any old pumpkin she should just paint foster sisters head orange and put a spot light on her. Mommy didn't think it was funny.

Yesterday was a sad, sad day!!

My old pal Bob who came to stay with us with his brother Pete when his Mommy went on holidays crossed the Bridge. Bob like me was a rescue that found a great, great home. He came into his new home at 10+ years old and gave his Mommy 2+ years of memories and stories. Bob was a legend who's stories amused many. Be it when he manned the pug rescue booth and decided that the pitbull booth was more interesting since they had hot dogs and parked himself there, and also stole an ice cream cone from a little girl that bent down to pet him or when he got bit on the butt by a goose while walking along the beach or when Sonny the little tiny kitten was brought in and decided that Bob was a good Mother and proceeded to try to nurse on him. Although his back end was failing his spirit stayed strong. Bob attended all the pug parties and even when it was a struggle he was so loving pulled in his wagon by his Mom. Bob was at Pugoween Sunday in his famous wagon, was fed massive amounts of treats and was a happy boy. With great sadness most of us knew this was most likely Bob's last party. He continued to go down hill rapidly and his Mom made the most selfless act and let Bob go while he still had dignity.
BOB YOU WERE TRULY ONE OF A KIND AND WE WILL MISS YOU OLD FRIEND!!

A stroller!! Now I can go to the pug parties in style. Momma said I wasn't going to the indoor one, I don't do too well in crowded places. Now I can go in my new ride. It's really very soft and comfy. I'm going partying today!! The only down side, my costume. Mommy thought it would be quite funny to dress us all as football players, the red team and the vision impaired blue team. I look like I'm wearing tighty whiteys. Not very happy with that. Wednesday gets to be the cheerleader in her little dress. Heck, I'd love to wear the dress!!!

It's October and I'm thinking about packing my bags and going into hiding. Yep that crazy lady that I love 364 days of the year is at it again. I heard her whispering and laughing. She loves to humiliate us one day a year all for the sake of Halloween. Anyone out there want a house guest until November?? I heard head wear is involved. Anyone????? PLEASE!!!!
