Gracie, Gracehorse, Gracedog, Puppy, Miss, Ace of Grace

Doggie Dynamics:
not playfulvery playful

Quick Bio:
-mutt-dog rescue

running really fast, playing, people, funny noises, toys, going for walks, getting dirty, rolling in stinky stuff, going to the dog park, playing with her Yorkie friends

She doesn't like when people go away and leave her home, or when we bring out the suitcases. Furniture being rearranged freaks her out, and she gets nervous if she hears people speaking in raised voices, even if it's on TV.

Favorite Toy:
The squeakers that she digs out of her plush toys, a tugger-with-ball toy that's now just a miniature basketball on a rope, and her Owlie, a purple rubber owl with bit of tuggy rope through it.

Favorite Food:
She eats Greenies chews by the metric ton. Otherwise she's a fiend for cheese, but she'll pretty much anything but her kibble.

Favorite Walk:
There's a little park behind a hospital not far from the house, with a bike path that connects to a nature reserve a few miles away. She likes to go there and hang out at the overpass where the freeway crosses the path or wade in the lake a mile or so in.

Best Tricks:
She can dance on her back feet for a good long time. She also knows the names of all her toys and people, so she can follow commands like "Go give your Owlie to Mom."

Arrival Story:
Poor Gracie had a rough start to life. She's between two and three years old, and (counting the pound) we're her at least her fifth home. My sister found her at the Mercer County Animal Rescue through Petsearch. She lived in one foster home with about thirty other dogs. She suddenly had to be moved to another one, though I've never heard any explanation as to why.

At one point she had a happy home before us--she's much too fond of people to have been a stray. The working theory in our house is that she belonged to a woman who really loved her and spoiled her, but got into a relationship with a man who didn't like or want the dog. We think he might have even been abusive, since she's so frightened of men. As a result, she's very insecure. We've had her about a year and she is getting better about knowing that people will come back, but she's still quite a jealous dog and very, very high strung. She flunked out of obedience school her first time around because she was more concerned with doing her clingy-cuddly thing and keeping the other dogs away from her people that with listening to what anyone was actually saying to her. She has done pretty well with us working with her at home in terms of basic obedience, though. For such a nutty background, she's a sweet, trusting dog. She's wildly enthusiastic about everything. She'll literally turn flips when someone asks her if she needs to go outside. In the yard she'll sprint amazingly fast circuits just because yay! Yard! We've found that we can't have the windows rolled down with her in the car, because she has a habit of leaping out when the car stops if she sees a person or another dog she wants to meet. She once broke a wine glass with her head, because she was so excited to see the person holding it that she forgot that she wasn't supposed to leap up on people. She's a bit of a bimbo, too. Scolding her when she does something really doesn't help, because she seems to think that it's part of the game. She just sits there and grins because yay! Someone's talking to her! Feels her passions very deeply, does Grace.

Oh my gosh this is so awesome! Everybody's paying attention to ME! Yay!

My big sister was home over the weekend and was mad about some pizza junk Jabba's ripped (yeah, I don't understand it either) that wouldn't let her get her mail for ever and ever and ever. It was kind of scary and I really hope that she doesn't think that it's my fault because I don't even know what it means. But then she gave me Greenies and told me that I'm a good dog, so I guess I did a good job guarding my people. I didn't even see anyone trying to brig her any mail.

But then she says today that it's okay and a really long time ago, this website was all about ME! And now everybody's giving me stuff and wanting to be friends and talking about me! Yay! Thanks so much, everybody!
