Came across an ad for a puppy. It took a while to get to the seller's house and when we finally got there the neighborhood wasn't the best. The seller took us to his living room where he pulled out a shoe box from underneath his sofa. In it was this TINY rat looking thing. You could tell it was a dog? sorta but couldn't make out if it was a Peke or a purebred at that. I asked him where the parents or other puppies were and he told me that the parents were at someone else's house and the other puppies were sold. This sounded very strange to me. Buried in a box full of clothing scraps was this little thing. Her eyes weren't even open and she didn't walk. Just a blob laying there. She moved a little but that was about it, just slept. Puzzled my mom and I went outside to ponder. She wanted to leave but for some reason I couldn't. I felt that if I left this puppy with this guy who obviously was paying no attention to her because he worked all day and kept her in the dark under a coach, that she would simply die. He was only feeding her corn meal in the morning and at night when he returned from work. I finally decided in the middle of the street that I was going to take her and if she wasn't a purebred white peke - which is what i had my heart set on - I was OK with it. I paid $30 for this little bundle of joy and so our wonderful adventure began.
First, we had to get her into the Hotel room where we were staying, unseen. In the next few days I bugged here repeatedly to feed her and to get her to walk. Basically gave her physical theraphy on her legs. She started progressing marvelously in the next 2 weeks, opened her eyes and started WALKING, albeit she could only go forward and backwards - no side to side, left or right. Therefore we nicknamed her "Forward forward, backup backup." I've attached a couple pictures so you can see what she looked like when I got her and later on when we brought her to the States.
By the time we flew back she was about 42 days old. Her "carrier" on the plane was a Hamster cage :) and the funny thing is that I went crazy getting her vaccinated, and all her international paperwork in order and because she was SOO small no one at the airport or on the plane even noticed her. Just one lady when we first arrived at the airport because I mentioned it to her. She didn't want to let her fly so after that I kept my mouth shut.
Honey has been a God send.. you see after my 1st Peke that I had since I was 12 died in 2000 it took me a few years to be ready to get attached to another little person.. ok Dog.
