Arrival Story:
After our second dog, Snoop, spent the holidays with our daughter's 6 month old dog we realized that he needed a pal. We started semi - searching and although we found Fin on and decided to go to meet him we really didn't expect that we would adopt until spring. ---------------------------------- ---------------------------------- ----------------------------- Finley was at the Main Line Animal Rescue ( where he had been for aprox. four months. We took Snoop with us to meet him and they seemed to get along, however Fin was not overly playful. He was however extremely friendly with everyone and it was obvious that he was very attached to the volunteers at MLAR. We fell in love with his personality pretty quickly and started the adoption process. A few days later Finley was in his new home. ---------------------------------- ---------------------------------- -------------- 2/12/2008 Today is Fin's three week aniversary in his new home. He is really starting to come out of his shell. He seems very happy and has adjusted to his new schedule very well. Every day of the first week with Finley seemed like Groundhog Day. He would wake up and follow everyone downstairs and become very timid and shy as though he had no idea where he was. By the fifth day it was beginning to really worry us. After a few hours he would seem to relax a bit but we didn't see his tail come out from between his legs until late in the day. Although his personality is much more calm than his brother Snoop's, he is beginning to do more running around and his tail does plenty of wagging. Watching him run from one side of the yard to the other is incredible. Wow, is he fast! I think it sort of freaks Snoop out a little bit because even with a head start he just can't beat Fin to the ball. Fin is doing very well with commands. He can sit, lay down and is doing very well with the stay command despite wanting to lung at his food or which ever door we are going through. He's very smart and learns things quickly. We are all looking forward to spring when we can go outside to play more often and go for some long walks. We are all very happy that Fin is a part of our family.

Finley was listed as a Boxer/Boston Terrier mix. I can only assume that at the time that he was assumed to be either of those breeds he was young and his breed was harder to identify. By the time we met him at almost 1 year of age he was so obviously a greyhound mix. He has almost all of the characteristics of the breed... we do think that he might also have some Boxer in him. He very much fits the "40 mph couch potato" nick-name given to greyhounds. While he loves to play and can run faster through our back yard than anything I've ever seen, he is happy to sleep the majority of the day away or lay across my lap while I'm watching TV or reading a book. As of this post Fin has only been with us for 2 - 1/2 weeks. I'm sure we will learn much more about him as time goes on.

Finley Update

Happy Anniversary

This month marks one year since we adopted Finley. Of course, we can hardly remember our home without him.

Fin is such a snuggler. There is nothing that makes him happier than laying across our laps, which is great during the colder months because he gives off some amazing heat.

His love of snuggling is probably at least partially due to his hatred of the cold. He wants so desperately to go out and play but his coat is very thin and even with a sweater he doesn't want to be out in that cold stuff any more than he has to. I don't have to go outside myself to know if the temperature has goin up. If he doesn't come running right back in the house I know it's gotta be warm outside.

We not only celebrate his one year anniversary with our family but also his second birthday in a few days.

Happy Birthday Finley. We sure do love ya!

It's been about 7 months since Finely joined our family, however we can barely remember when he wasn't here or what our house would be like without him.

When Fin got here he was very thin and very shy. That has all changed. Fin is very comfortable with his home, family and even with strangers.

Although some people have said that he is the scariest looking member of our pack, he is actually the most calm and lovey-dovey of all of them.

All of our dogs are addicted to our routine now, but Fin more than any of them knows when it is time to make dinner and when it is time to sit on the couch and snuggle. As an added bonus, he makes a great pillow as long as you stay away from his big, hard head. :-)
