A foal on the farm...

This morning at 1am, the first foal for the season was finally born. He is a tall, healthy colt. Mommy mare and foal are both doing well and we are all resting after a long night with only a little sleep. But it was well worth it to see that cutie enter the world.

She said yes...

Well last night, I worked up the courage to ask Josie to be my girl-furiend. I think she is the neatest pup in the world. So sweet, so cute and she loves to chase squirrels. She's perfect. *sigh* I'm a very lucky pup because she said YES! What a great day!

Maybe we will have a foal soon...

We may finally have the new foal on the farm. Whew...sleep would be great! The mare's milk is finally completely ready. This plus all the other signs say we will have a foal in 24 hours. I sure hope so, because the next mare is due on April 15th and I would really like a few nights sleep without the video system blasting.

I'll keep you posted!

Still on foal watch...

We are still on foal watch here, so my Pup eyes are drooping. Hopefully sometime in the next few days our first mare will foal and then we can all get some sleep.

Other exciting news though is that the ducks are back. And with the ducks, came the geese. Yippee! One of my official farm duties is to chase the geese out of the fields. I'm supposed to leave the ducks alone, but the Canadian geese make a mess of the fields and their droppings can make the foals sick. So I get to chase the geese out of our fields. They don't go far, only to the neighbors field and I'm not allowed to go over there. So it's a never ending job, but I LOVE the chase.

Busy week on the farm...

Spring is definitely coming. The weather has been warmer and the snow is *starting* to melt. The first mare of the season is preparing to have her foal. And the wildlife is out and about. With so much going on it hard to know what to write about first...

Mare watch...I've been staying up all week with my Mom as she watches the one of our mares on the tv. I can't wait. It is always so exciting to have a new foal on the farm. They are long legged and akward at first but they get the hang of those legs fast and then they like to play.

I also noticed a new critter on the farm...a beaver. He has built a dam at the end of a stream in the corner of the property. This is a bit of a problem as he is backing the water up and causing some flooding in the fields. I'm going to do some more up-close investigating of the damn this week-end. Maybe I'll get to chase the beaver some. Mom said that if I can manage to herd him to the opposite end of the property, so that he builds a damn that stops the flooding of the fields, I will get a big prize. Goodie, goodie, goodie! Chasing a small critter, herding AND a big prize. I"M A LUCKY DOG!

I'm a working dog...

I live on a farm and help my pawrents with all of the chores. It's alot of fun and there is always something different to do. I love it when my Dad and I do construction or fence repair. It's alot of time outside and we get to play with tools. :) Today, I was helping my Mom turn-out and the terrain is tough walking because everything is iced over and you don't break through the snow. My poor Mom fell while carrying hay. Flecks of hay went flying and she went down with a thud. I ran up and kissed her face to make sure she was ok. She muttered something about the stupid weather and I helped her get up. I wish I could carry the hay for her.

While we were outside, I did hear some noises up in the woods and there was a squirrel jumping from branch to branch. I watched for a while hoping he too would slip and fall, but no luck. I'll have to wait another day to chase him.
