Arrival Story:
Ruby was homeless and spent her days scavenging for food along Rt. 23 in Catlettsburg, KY. With the help of two friends I tried to persuade Ruby to come to the van - she got scared and ran into the highway... we tossed her a sandwich and drove away. A few days later an angel in disquise, named Jennifer, was driving down the highway when she saw this dog collapse in the median from the extreme summer heat. Jennifer was on her way home and cried all evening thinking about that little black dog. She spent her lunch hour the next day trying to capture her. Much to her surprise, she saw the dog go towards a dilapidated building, and out came 7 puppies to greet her. Jennifer was able to scoop them all up and take them to the vet. Jennifer worked very hard finding homes for all 7 puppies but the mamma wasn't as easy to find a home for. That's when another angel in disquise, Cindy, stepped up and offered to pay for all of the vet bills and began her own mission of finding a home for "Mamma". I was persuaded to "just foster" her until we could find a forever home...well, the rest is history. We fell in love with "RUBY" and she seemed to be the perfect sister for Lucy. I've never owned anything but a purebred, but I'm telling you, these little muts are the best dogs! You can tell in the pictures, that the red in her fur that became her namesake fell out when she started getting a proper diet. oh well!
